A Perfect Stay at Casa de Alta in Mindo!

As a solo traveler, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay than Casa de Alta. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel incredibly welcome—they were friendly, accommodating, and always ready to help. My room was cozy and comfortable, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. And the breakfast? Absolutely amazing! Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared—it was the best way to start my day. The morning view was just as incredible, with hummingbirds constantly fluttering around, making for a magical experience in the heart of the cloud forest. The peaceful atmosphere and warm hospitality made my stay truly special. If you’re looking for a relaxing, welcoming spot in Mindo, I highly recommend Casa de Alta. I’ll definitely be back!

We had a lovely stay at Casa de Vista Alta in Mindo. It's a gorgeous property in a stunning location, high up on a hill, surrounded by a bird-filled cloud forest. The views from the veranda (and balconies) are spectacular. The staff at the Casa were very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed hanging out with the Casa's dog, Kyova. We spent one night in a room in the main house and the other night in a cabin. Breakfast was very tasty. We also ate dinner once at the main house -- tasty trout on the spacious veranda. We greatly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

The pros for this property are endless! The property and surrounding area are breathtaking. The staff go above and beyond to ensure a happy stay. A breakfast of fruit, fresh juice, coffee, eggs, bread and jam using high quality, local ingredients. We felt safe in Mindo and the property is located in between the town and the excursions. We opted for dinner and a bird watching tour, i highly recommend both!

Absolutely lovely. Owned and operated by a local family. The staff is very kind and helpful. The views of wildlife are exceptional. We were very comfortable. We didn’t want to leave! Note that the road to the hotel is not paved. The local drivers are used to it. If arriving from Quito, get out at the Mindo town square and take a taxi $4-5 to the hotel. People there seem honest and hardworking.

This property is in a nice location, nature's paradise, lots of trees and birds around, I was delighted to see toucans and hummingbirds everyday(stayed for 4 nights) it's safe and quiet, staff is good, breakfast is free and it's quite good, there are also decent lunch and dinner options if u don't want to to go to town. Taxi ride is $4 if u want to go to town and Esther who is the caretaker will call for a taxi for u. She is very helpful with answering ur questions. Overall it's a good place, my only suggestion would be to have screen doors/windows so u can leave glass door/window open for airflow and not have mosquitoes/insects come in.

Horrible service. Do not recommend.

Horrible service. This place costs much more than the other hotels in town. The first night was fine. On the second night, when we came back from town, there was no power. No one informed us. We called the hotel and they said they’re workin it. We didn’t have power all that evening/night and the day after through checkout. After that initial phone call to the hotel, they stopped answering our texts and calls. We didn’t know what was happening. No one checked on us, no one brought us a flashlight. Within 30min our phones shut down cause we couldn’t charge them and we didn’t even have a flashlight in them. Couldn’t use our computers. It was pitch dark. We couldn’t do anything in the room, had to shower in the dark, search for our stuff in the dark. Couldn’t even use the jacuzzi we paid extra for. The most frustrating thing is that no one cared no one checked how we were doing. No one apologized the day after. We couldn’t go to the reception because it was a 10 min walk through complete darkness. We could have paid $100 less and stayed in a a room with light in town. Since then they have been ignoring our calls for refund for that horrible night. One of the worst experiences I had in a vacation. I do not recommend.

A stay in paradise! Beautiful view, lots of hummingbirds, even the Tucans are paying visits to the garden! Private cabins with espectular view of the forests! Nice staff who is very willing to advise on tours and acitivities. Last but not least great food, best breakfast so far in Ecuador! Well worth the price!

The most incredible hotel. The views are amazing. Humming birds and toucans all around the common area lobby. Walking distance to cable car and waterfalls hike. VERY peaceful setting. This hotel is in a quiet part away from the center. Very helpful staff. Breakfast was very tasty. Great bird watching near the property. Cable car for the waterfall hike is less than a mile from the hotel as well. Butterfly garden is nearby too.

Definitely Recommend!

This is a FANTASTIC property. Located in the mountains, the villas are nestled in the moutains with either forest views or valley views. The staff was amazing. It is a 45 minute walk from Mindo, or a $4.00 taxi. Less that 2Km walk from the hotel is the cable car over the valley to additional hikes and waterfalls. The staff were wonderful, food and wine were excellent, and many, many, many birds. Our guide Esther was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It is a great place!

We had a really beautiful and relaxing stay here in Mindo for 3 days. The property is a short drive from town, and we enjoyed being more secluded and in touch with nature. Our room was fantastic - beautifully crafted and well-decorated with tons of natural light, including a huge private balcony with a hot tub that overlooked the forest. It was so relaxing to fall asleep and wake up to sounds of the forest. We enjoyed a delicious daily breakfast on the main terrace, which has a stunning view of the valley. We ate and watched hummingbirds flittering inches from our table and toucans hanging out in the trees along the property. The hotel is a family-run business, and everyone was phenomenal and incredibly kind. Fernando went above and beyond to ensure that we had a comfortable and easy stay in Mindo, and was able to organize all of our transportation to and from the airport and around town, which was really helpful. He is also very passionate and talented in bird-watching, and we were able to book a private morning tour with him, which was the highlight of our time in Mindo. This was such a special and magical place & I hope to return someday!
