We stayed at the Golden Nugget because of the Fremont Street experience, the swimming pool, and the Chart House restaurant. The hotel was okay but is starting to show its age again. Carpets definitely need a deep cleaning, especially in the elevators. The floor of our bathtub, for some reason, was like a valley which made it difficult to stand up for a shower and get out safely. It's silly that people can walk around the hallways smoking but not in the restaurants, which are open-air to the hallways, another reason we didn't eat at the hotel. We can't stand that they still allow smoking. Fremont Street experience, probably due to the heat, was like walking with a plastic bag of cigarette/cigar/pot smoke over your head. It was hot the week we were there with the average daytime temperature 107° and at night it was still 95°. The amount of homeless people you encounter is very sad. We made sure to always have leftovers and carry extra water to help out. I thought it was nice that security does not harass these people and they are able to come inside for brief periods for the air conditioning. The only meal we ate on the property was at the Chart House, which is very nice and has an aquarium as the centerpiece. We were surprised that their prices were in line with what we pay in Monterey. Our meal was excellent. Otherwise, everything else was fine.
