Will not stay again

Paid for a king bed, since I was traveling with a friend and we wanted plenty of space to sleep. Was told that wasn't available when checking in. Have yet to receive any kind of refund, response, etc. The room we got was dirty and the bathroom door made so much noise that we couldn't use it during the night without waking up the other person.

Great for the area

Very comfy bed, slept great. Great size room for the area, we had a lot more space than I was expected. If you’ve read reviews about elevator wait times, we waited just as long or longer for elevators at other hotels in the area. It’s just more noticeable here because there’s fewer of them. Welcome to New York lol. Would stay here again as it’s a great value for the neighborhood and was very comfortable for sleeping.

Pretty poor conditions

The place felt like it was falling apart. Small lifts that were not working half the time so had to use stairs. If they were working they were so slow it is easier to take the stairs. Loud area at night. No soap in the dispenser. Floor boards just floating and not even stuck down. Coffee machine didn't work. If it was cheap it would be expected but not for the price they are charging.

The Gallivant: Highly recommend

I recently stayed at The Gallivant and had a lovely experience overall, but what truly stood out was the incredible hospitality from Rob. We experienced a bit of a hiccup during check-in, but Rob handled it with such professionalism, kindness, and efficiency that any frustration melted away. He went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed and taken care of—something that really set the tone for the rest of our stay. Thanks to Rob, what could have been a rocky start turned into a truly memorable visit. The hotel itself is beautiful, but it's the people like Rob who make it exceptional. Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely be back!

Far from luxury hotel, but survivable.

I’ll admit, I was honestly nervous before arriving at The Gallivant Times Square. I had read quite a few negative reviews online, and they definitely made me hesitant. Unfortunately, my experience did confirm some of those warnings—particularly about the front desk. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the same sassy (or maybe just plain cocky) receptionist that several other guests have mentioned in their reviews. Not exactly the warmest welcome. The hotel itself is very basic. There's no restaurant or any major amenities, but if you're simply looking for a place to sleep while spending most of your time exploring the city, it does the job. Our room was reasonably clean overall, although there was some dust in the corners. Housekeeping was offered daily, which was a plus. That said, there were a few hygiene concerns. We noticed small flies on the bathroom ceiling—not pleasant, but also not a huge disturbance. However, on our last day, we found a dead cockroach, which was just gross. Also worth noting: there was no mini-fridge in the room, which was a bit of a letdown. It’s something you’d normally expect in even budget hotels, so its absence was definitely inconvenient. Great location, but just ok rooms

Not as well kept as the photos would make you think. Also, of the three elevators, only one was working and at prime times could take 10 minutes. Luckily, we were not too high up, so we were okay taking the stairs. We were in two rooms (the first did not having a working AC unit nor was it the king bed that we booked); it was 76 F in there when we arrived. The furniture is more than a bit beaten up but the bed itself was comfortable. The shower floods the floor when you use it due to poor design (no way around it since there is no shower door nor curtain). Staff was mixed in friendliness except the cleaning staff on both floors that we were on: they were amazing, so friendly and kind and wanting to help. Also, location is great for seeing Broadway shows. 5-10 min from most theaters.

Excellent location, comfortable beds

We had a fabulous time and the location was amazing. I’m not sure I’d stay in the summer as I did not see air conditioning and the one day it was 28 degrees the room was very warm. Otherwise would definitely stay again.

Worn Down Hotel

The hotel is very worn. I was so disappointed and the pictures do not give a good representation of the current conditions. Lots of broken items and it feels dirty. The worst parts was the elevator system. It was very slow and sometimes you weren't even able to get one because it was so packed brining down other guests. We ended up taking the stairs most of the time and we were on a high floor. For the amount of money spent, I would have expected a bit more bang for your buck. Two positives are locations (if you don't mind it being bust) because it is close to a lot of placed we were visiting and main attractions. Also, the staff was kind and helpful.
