I stayed here two weekends in a row, and both times I was assigned room #4, which is downstairs in the 'staff only' area (which can get really warm, likely due to the laundry). The room technically had a window, but there is no view.
While I was still able to get a good night's sleep, this is one of the hardest beds I've ever slept on. Everything else about the room was fine -- it was nice having a mini-fridge since my other Scotland hotels did not.
Both times I checked in, I was not told about the discounts at the restaurants across the street. Fortunately I overheard it being told to another guest, and I actually took advantage of the discount multiple times at the Thai restaurant.
Location is fantastic as it's walkable from both the train station (Waverly) and the bus station. There are also incredible castle views at the end of the street as you walk towards the Old Town.
Overall, it wasn't my favorite hotel, but wouldn't necessarily rule it out in a return trip if the price is right.
