The Red Lion Inn Has Lost Its Roar
I was excited to finally stay at the Red Lion Inn after having admired its grandeur from afar when passing through Stockbridge. My husband and I have a penchant for historic hotels and we were ready to check this one off the list. Though the staff working in the front lobby were attentive and kind, we did have issues in other areas of the hotel. We ate in both the tavern and the main dining room but, unfortunately, found the service to be just okay. Our server was not overly friendly in the tavern and did not look to check up on us. When we decided that we wanted dessert and tea, she seemed oddly annoyed. In the main dining room, my husband received the wrong omelette order, and by the time we were able to see our waiter to flag him down, a good ten minutes had passed. Yet, all of this pales in comparison to our actual room stay. The bed in our room was lumpy and worn out and the frame loudly creaked with every movement, so no one woke up feeling rested. Also, there were small bloodstains on the linens, the sink was stained blue, and the upholstered chairs had areas worn through to the thread. Also, a good number of room doors have large gaps at the top. This combined with the paper-thin walls makes it easy to hear conversations in adjacent rooms. In addition to the initial high cost to stay, a preservation fee is charged for each night; we didn’t see where those funds were aptly applied. We checked the hotel off the list and were disappointed with what we discovered.
