Super 8 advertises free shuttle to airport, and I called 3 days ahead to be sure I had a space on the 4am shuttle for an early morning flight. I explicitly said that I had skis and confirmed that there was space. Was told no problem. Arrived to check in the night before and told that not only the 4am but all the next early shuttles were full, and my name wasn’t on the list. So I made a lot of noise and the manager decided that someone had made a mistake on the roster and that I was in fact listed. Seemed like the problem was solved, but…
when I lined up with my ski bag at 3:55am the driver said there wouldn’t be room for the skis (laid over the back seat in the middle) because the van was full. I counted seats: 5 including the front passenger seat, plus skis. I asked the driver how many people and he just said the van is full, no room for skis. I said, what about the roof rack? He was willing to go look for tie-down straps but then one of the passengers said it’s only “us three”, meaning 4 including me, and therefore room for skis. So after all that aggravation everything worked out. Hotel screwed up, and lesson learned (not for the first time, of course) is: keep making noise until things get straightened out. Failing grade to Super 8 on service.
