The appearance of the facilities were decent and I was hopeful that based on reviews, the rooms would be clean. The mattress was stained and the rooms need to be vacuumed along the baseboards and corners. There was fecal matter on the outside of the toilet. Whereas otherwise it appeared clean, with those things missed, it made us question how details like this could be missed if cleaning had been thorough. Front desk and housekeeping were very helpful and kind. We were offered a different room, and was able to inspect before being moved. Breakfast area was clean and well-stocked with standard scramble eggs, sausage and rolled pancakes, Yoplait yogurt, Quaker oatmeal packets and apples, juice. Coffee was just OK. Building outside was clean and well-maintained. Best part was friendly staff and decent price. Just need to be more thorough with cleaning and waterproof mattress protection.

This review isn't totally fair as I rated all questions super low - and I never even went inside this hotel. It could be super clean inside, for all I know. Here's the deal - I was traveling (female) alone that day and booked a room here, figuring it would be fine given it was a national hotel chain, located right next to a university. Plus, the photos looked decent enough and Big Rapids is generally lovely, from what little I know. When I arrived however (after already paying, which was a STUPID mistake as I should have driven by the hotel first to scout it out), the place seemed so sketchy that I didn't even want to exit my car. There were security shields covering all the hotel windows and there was a weird crowd milling about outside; some going back and forth from the liquor store next door. One creepy guy circled my car a few times and gave me an odd look and that was it for me...I pulled away and didn't even bother to check in. It just didn't feel safe, for me, and I had to trust my instincts in the moment.

The room was nice and clean. But a fuse breaker must have thrown because we didnt have no lights when we walked in and the talble lights didnt work. The jacuzzi had jets which was nice but the tub itself was dirty. The hand towels were dirty as well.
