The hotel rented for us a room for over $300 per night and did not even have a working bathtub. When we inquired about the fact that the plug was not suitable to stop the water from flowing out we were advised to use a washcloth to prevent the water emptying out! The toilet seat was so old that the paint was worn off. Breakfast did not include eggs or protein and the toaster was not functioning. Finally, the sink faucet was corroded and came off its base. So in conclusion: our stay was way overpriced and we shall not return!

Mixed bag

Whole place needs a refresh. Curtains were fraying, paint was peeling in bathroom. Some mold around tub/shower. Staff were pleasant and view is lovely Location was closer to highway than I anticipated. If it werent for the crashing waves sounds at night, the highway noise was have been bad.

Hotel is really dated. Room had mold smell when we checked in. Room hadn't been updates since Nixon was in office. Nice views from the pool area. Restaurant was nice for dinner and nice service there. Morning breakfast buffet was meager and was never stocked after initial set up.

The location right on the ocean is amazing.The hotel is dated, the staff is hard working and friendly, it is clean, the pool is nice. The room with 2 queen beds was very roomy. . We did not eat at the restaurant but many people did. The food looked delicious and the staff was very professional. The breakfast was good and included.

Oceanside hotel right off 101.

Lovely location with ocean views -- fall asleep to the crash of waves. Easy drive into Ventura for restaurants and ferries. Very helpful front desk staff. Excellent dinner at the in-house restaurant -- enjoyed dining outdoors, watching the ocean. The rooms are simple and could use some updating, but we didn't spend much time in the room.

Ignore the negative reviews, with a catch

As you probably imagined, this place has the best view, period. When you travel south along CA-1 or PCH, the lodges on your right hand side is always better. Cliff House Inn's view falls into the "right hand side" category - unobstructed, private, mesmerizing, and tranquil. When we first arrived, parked and went to the front desk, that cozy ocean peek through the front gate is unparalleled. The catch - go for the 4 "big rooms" when you can. They make a huge difference. They have better views, bigger room, better amenities in general, etc. You don't stop at a cliffside hotel just for a quick rest. You probably plan to stay there for an extend period, and the deluxe rooms are worth every penny for the upgrade. Dinner offering is fine. Breakfast is subpar and goes quickly. Best season to visit is those days with just right amount of sea breeze in the day time, and a bit chilly at night. Space heater works fine, but may be not in the winter. Overall it's worth the stay, and we will definitely come back sometime, probably in the off season.

Issue on check-out day. Put suitcases in car before breakfast (7:30am). Plan was to have breakfast, then go to beach to explore. After breakfast, had to go to the bathroom, went to room, door open, cleaning lady making one of the beds. Used bathroom, said we hadn't checked out yet (desk had sign check-out 12pm). Daughter had to use bathroom, door wide open again, used bathroom and heard someone, came out woman making second bed! Told front desk, no apology, just said that they probably thought we had checked out. We still had out beach towel and a few things in the room in case we needed to clean up a bit after beach exploring. Continental breakfast, fruit was never replenished. Restaurant food was ok, salad was good. Floor in room had definite slant from mid room to back wall, at least 1.5", saw cracks on walls, could fit quarter in them. Beach rocky, but found lots of beautiful shells! Would not go back.
