A wholesome stay

We had a one night stay at the Black Bull and wished we could’ve stayed longer. It’s such a wholesome place to stay, the staff are friendly, the rooms comfortable and set in a beautiful village. Thanks We’ll be back

Spacious room and bathroom, very comfortable bed. The staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We had dinner and breakfast here and both were exceptional. We did not explore the surrounding area.

Lovely community run pub with loads of local history and great location in heart of the village. Friendly and helpful staff offered great service. Pub grub delivered with a smile and good value and very tasty. Breakfast cooked to order by the Chef and excellent start to the day. My second visit and certainly not my last. Thank you BB Gartmore

Very nice stay for gravel cycling trip. Great accommodation, food, friendly etc. The only thing that could be improved is secure place to store bikes while staying.

Charming and Wonderful

Most amazing stay at this Community Owned pub and and inn. The room was lovely and we enjoyed our evening in the pub with the locals, learning the history of the area. Food was fantastic, fire was cozy and it was fun watching the football match with them. Charming and wonderful. thank you!

Hotels.com shocking

Our stay at the Black Bull was first class. However, the service from Hotels.com was appaling.

A relaxing quiet hotel

Stopped off at the Black Bull on the way up to the Aberdeen ferry to Shetland. The hotel staff were most welcoming, our room was larger than expected and it felt very clean. Had a nice tasty bar meal - was nearly over faced by the huge size of my haddock but bravely managed it! Very quiet night’s sleep.

Nothing’s too much trouble!

The perfect, cosy boutique hotel with friendly staff who go the extra mile… Kitty even helped get one our motorbikes going on the first day of our trip! Recommend to anyone coming to this beautiful part of the country!

I do not usually leave reviews however I was so impressed with what this community lead project has achieved I want to do what I can to help it succeed. My room was clean and well presented and the service and food, both breakfast and dinner, was excellent. The hotel is in a quiet rural location and I was staying there on business. It was a 45 minute scenic commute into Glasgow however, this will not put me off staying there again. Good luck to all at the Black Bull.

8/10 Very good

Community-driven inn with great people

The old inn was reborn as a community-driven hotel. You’ll meet volunteers and wonderful and kind staff. Breakfast is ordered the day before - choose a time and just show up. Restaurant was perfect for dinner - tasty and wholesome dishes at low prices. The bar also sells cocktails, wine and beer at very low prices. We stayed in one of two rooms on the top floor. Comfortable and very clean. But with just one very small window that opens there’s no way to really get air through the room. After a bath or a warm day it gets very damp. Maybe the sky window could be replaced with one that opens?

4/10 Fair

Rural, but poor setup

rural setting, chosen because it is 30-40 minutes from Loch Lomand, Stirling, and Glasgow. Pictured an inn with grounds to wander on, wide open spaces. Just the opposite-tiny space with no grounds, no parking, just a couple of picnic tables outside. Very little contact moving in. No offered help in figuring out where and how to park, no offered help in lugging luggage up narrow stairs to the third floor. Room with queen so tiny a suitcase could not be opened, even on the floor. Barely room to walk around the bed itself. Bath tiny, but adequate with shower. Food good on site. A one night stay at the most. We made the mistake of booking three

Great food in cozy village

The Black Bull was built as an inn in 1740. Gartmore is a quaint village with nearby walking paths. There are no shops or other things, but it is beautiful for it's countryside views and a nearby path. Also, the food is outstanding at the Black Bull. The menu is small but the chef makes it all count with each plate masterfully executed. I had a traditional chicken recipe stuffed with haggis and it was so tender and flavorful. I had to personally go thank the chef; it was just that tasty.
