This is a 10/10 hotel. The staff is beyond kind and goes out their way to help. The reception spoke perfect English and went above and beyond to help me after a mix up of dates. Upon arrival- I was very impressed with the room size and decor. I have been to many 5 star hotel and the room size, comfort and quality was below this hotel. The rooms are huge with high ceiling and good AC. The shower pressure was the best throughout the hotels I have stayed in Costa Rica and the hot water worked well. Do not let the cheap price fool you. This is a 5 star hotel for its comfort and best of all its 10 mins away from the international airport.

La ubicación y el precio muy bueno. Las habitaciones tienen las cortinas que no abarcan toda la ventana y el sol entra desde las 6 am. El aire acondicionado casi no enfría, tuvimos que dormir con dos abanicos adicionales prendidos.

Las habitaciones limpias, camas cómodas, solo que el colchón tenía un hundimiento de un lado. Las ventanas no tienen las cortinas desde arriba, eso hace que el sol desde las 6 am esté pegando en la habitación. El aire acondicionado casi no enfriaba, ni siquiera en 16 grados, tuvimos que usar los dos abanicos para refrescar más la habitación.

Room, no water or toilet for 3 hours late at night. Zero amenities. No soap. Filthy floor. Our main suite did not lock. Dark and dingy. Not sure if AC was working at all. Owner did not respond to text. It didnt tell us room was on 3rd floor with no elevator. Wi fi quite fast. Shower flash heater works well after waiting for 3 hours

It was not very nice experience. To get to the place it was an adventure. There is not signal to be a hotel, there was a lot stairs to climb and we have a senior with disability. To leave next day to the airport, it was very difficult to get a taxi. Overall, a terrible experience. I will not recommend for people with a lot luggage and seniors.

While Karao Hotel may offer budget nightly stays, it offers amazingly large rooms, close vicinity to the Liberia airport, public bus directory in front of Karao, and extraordinary professionally brewed coffee shop and breakfast meals. The (made on premises) breakfast items are inexpensive and high quality. Hope you will enjoy my recent photos of these delights, my companion and I stayed twice in December 2025. Perfect in every way.

There was no way to lock the doors, there was food ans dirt piled in the common areas, someone has slept in my bed without even making the bed, other people has left empty food containers in my room. I left and got a new reservation. I will be seeking a refund from Expedia.

Exceptionally clean, quaint. Very spacious rooms available! Attached to Hotel Karao is quaint Coffee Shop Karao, Small outdoor patio, great coffee and wonderful Chocolate Banana Bread and many other baked breakfast food items. Bottled water, Front Desk and coffee shop staffed 7am-5pm. Check in 24/7, but you will be given code to retrieve room keys after about 5 pm. Phone number of local owners to help is posted if you have an issue. Staff was exceptional and friendly. Very clean and attentive. Amazingly responsive in helping contact Taxi and shuttles - even less expensive bus service right out front. Karao Hotel is a budget stay that’s clean with attached coffee shop and treats, This is great place on a quaint, small scale! Yes a rooster nearby announcing sunrise early. I loved it - great rural feel but 5 minutes from airport. We plan to stay again night before we fly out next week.

We arrived "after hours" at the hotel, around 7:30PM. Instructions had been emailed about the keybox code to get the keys to our room. The keybox resides on the outside of the building, next to the front door. There were multiple sets of room keys in the box, but no communication had been made about which room was ours. We called the number posted, but were unable to get through to anyone. The front door to the hotel was not locked, allowing anyone access. The available parking ensures that your vehicle is visible and easily accessible from Ruta Nacional Primera 21, which is a busy road. After exploring a couple of different room options, with the multiple sets of keys, we went up to our room. The room was clean and the air conditioning worked, but the Wifi signal did not carry into the room, and there was no hot water.
