Friendly hotel but extra charges seemed excessive.
The hotel is a beautiful Victorian building but it s looking very tired on the outside. Gardens are lovely. There were no toiletries left in our room and an empty dusty room scenter was left in the bathroom even though I placed it on the bin. The floorboards in the room above creaked so much we were awake from 5am onwards with the residents of the room walking around. The hotel did offer to move us but we were on our last day/night. There was a stale smell in some corridors in the ground floor and wet carpet in one area being dehumidified. The spa was lovely and we made use of this. The outside carpark on site is charged for, which as a paying guest I found odd. We also paid to bring our dog and were then told we had to have specific rooms with dogs so a further charge per night was made. This potentially added £40 a night just to bring our dog. Breakfast at £15 a head also felt expensive.
The hotel is well located and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful.
