Beautiful resort - just wasn’t the best fit?

The resort had a wonderful charm and definitely feels “older” (I.e not the MODERN vibe) than some of the other resorts I’ve stayed at but we were looking for a resort that felt like we were in the Caribbean which drew us to Valentín. The property is well maintained and definitely gave us Spanish home in the jungle vibes which we loved. The staff were amazing/helpful and the lobby smells incredible. The reason for my rating is because for us personally, the food and drinks were just ok (for the price we paid we would’ve hoped for better), and the resort seemed to draw an older crowd. Nothing wrong with that of course but we felt somewhat out of place being in our mid 30s. The resort is also not nearby anywhere to walk offsite so essentially for activities you either have to enjoy what they offer at the resort or venture out via a 30 min taxi ride.

This is a very nice resort and possibly the best one I have stayed at in Mexico! I arrived on January 5th and stayed until the 19th. The entire trip including flights and transportation (Happy Shuttle) to and from the resort went very smooth without incident. Staff were first class and you're treated very well! This resort is big with an abundance of walkways for exercise as well as just getting around. A lot of food choices with the restaurants as well as the "Poolbum" food services that were pool side that included burgers, nachos, tacos and more! The pool is very nice (lagoon style) and big with two swim up bars. One end is the party zone and the other end is the quiet zone. My room was very nice and located in building #4 which provided easy access and short distance to the pools as well as the path to the La Marche restaurant for breakfast and lunch buffets. Plenty of food choices for all likes! Although I have been to them before and didn't do it on this trip, I would recommend the excursions to Xplor for the snorkeling as well as Xcaret! If you're planning on going to Playa del Carmen for some shopping, it's about an hour can ride for about CDN$140 return. A couple things to remember is that you can't use cash at the resort except for tipping! Everything is charged to the room and the store that is on the premises is very expensive for such things as Coppertone tanning spray (CDN$51.00), Chips (CDN$15) and chocolate bars (CDN$12.00).

After arriving at the property, we were in awe at how well manicured and maintained the property was. The property is HUGE, but once you get your bearings, it’s easy to navigate. The food was amazing, our only disappointment was at the Mar Y Terra - we both had steaks that were subpar. Outside of that, the food was amazing. The breakfast bar was huge with lots of variety. The fresh made omelets were fantastic! We loved the options at the pools, several spaces offered different choices each day. Overall, our stay was amazing, we will be back!

Only thing I didn't like is if you weren't in VIP tier, you had to proactively make reservations for dinner so you weren't eating at 9pm. With all the technology these days, e.g. OpenTable, visitors should be able to make reservations online or an app.

Despite the weather being terrible.. the resort and staff made our trip very enjoyable. We absolutely loved this resort. We recommend it 10/10 and would absolutely come back. The food is top tier. Best we’ve had at any all inclusive resort.

This place was absolutely beautiful. From the time they greet you at the front to when you leave you're treated like royalty. Find Angel and Edgar at the swim-up pool bar. They will treat you right!

The property is huge with plenty of walking trails/sidewalks so it never felt crowded. Trees line all the sidewalks, and it is beautiful.

Had a great time at the Valentin. The grounds are huge and excellent. I had one bad meal of swordfish, but everything else was great.

It's a great place to stay, our 3rd time. They keep the place clean, staff is great, nothing not to like. If you like the pool it's excellent. If you like the beach, also really good. Would stay again.
