10/10 Exceptional

Clean, hot shower, soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, AC, wifi didn’t work, had to reprogram the dishtv. Honestly doesn’t deserve it’s 3/10 rating. More like 6-7/10. 5 stars to give it a bump. This place gets the job done.

Needed a garbage bin in the kitchen area and at least looked at daily. Great stop for the area.

You get what you pay for and I couldn't complain as we were a late booking. We had everything we needed, comfortable bed, hot shower and private bathroom. Jesus (spanish manager) did all he could to accomodate us. If you want 5 star and want to pay 4 times the price stay elsewhere but this was very suitable for us, no complaints here 😊

OK

The whole place could do with some care, very tired looking building, peeling paint, not that clean, could nit connect to the wifi, no tv and no cups to make a drink in, The bed however was really comfortable and we did sleep well.

6/10 Good

The lone staff person I met was friendly and polite. This is mostly a hiker hostel. Our room with the twin beds was totally appropriate (and what was expected for the affordable price). This is not a lux hotel and doesn't sell itself that way. Full bathroom, functional and clean plumbing, a common area kitchen with most of what one needs to prep a meal (bring your own paper towels, maybe plates/glasses and understand this is shared low-cost housing). That said, the facility is in dire need of exterior maintenance. Not sure how they could afford all that needs to be done with the vacancies we saw on our visit, but the grounds and building exterior could use hundreds of hours and maybe thousands of dollars to really dress it up. It has so much potential - if the area through-traffic would support it. There's a restaurant attached to the building, but it is closed. The cafe on the same property wasn't open when we stayed - didn't look to be operational. There is a gas station right across the way, several competing (no vacancy) hotels and hostels, a dairy-type convenience store and two cafes (breakfast and a really crowded and understaffed lunch/dinner/bar) just a block away. Seriously, if you are looking for a place to park your tired legs after hitting the nearby glaciers and hiking trails, or a heli ride/tour, and you aren't seeking fancy, the rooms are totally adequate to sleep. Just don't expect chocolates on your pillow.

The room was very clean. But it says wifi which unfortunately does not work unless you are outside. The TV works off of wifi, so no TV to be able to unwind. The frame on the twin bed needs to be bigger as you fall off either side giving you mininum area to sleep. But it was great distance to the Fox Glacier walk and Lake Matheson.

BEWARE

We were very excited to come to Fox Glacier for our heli-hike tour. That is, until we drove into the ruins of Jade Hotel. We were greeted with an overgrown building, trash, and a sketchy appearance. The registration employee was kind but quickly rushed us out to search for our room. The room was dark, smelled of mold, had no AC or airflow, a plywood-like bed frame, and had leftover hair in the bathroom from previous users. If not for the cold outside air, we would have considered camping in the mountains. I am not sure where else you should seek refuge, but I would not recommend the Jade Hotel, despite its deceiving name. Best of luck and good travels.

The hotel is in very poor, unsightly, condition. The service at reception was absent to minimal. The room was clean but a little tatty despite being said to be one of their best. The TV was connected via WiFi whose channel was not connected to the internet. The satellite TV was not working. Both faults were beyond the capability of the staff to correct. I eventually reset & tuned the sat & its LNB myself. The nearby Bestsy Jane restaurant was great & improved the overall experience.

Sadly we had an unpleasant stay at this property. Buildings very run down. Unpleasant really strong smell like chlorine in room. Staff changed room which was appreciated. Staff did try and help but limited english.Water had to be boiled for use. The weirdest thing was tea and coffee provided but no cups or kettle. Manager stated owner would not provide milk for guests. Outside areas were very untidy and uncared for looking. Appreciated that staff tried their best but was a miserable stay.

Terrible room smells like mildew and damp, kitchen smells and was the worst I’ve ever been in. Overall this would have to be the most overpriced room I’ve ever been in. No milk for the tea or coffee and no top sheets.

As a room where we stayed for a night was clean and convenient. However, the whole building needs some maintenance.

There was a toilet leak - although we were refunded half the cost - walking on wet floor in the cubicle wasn’t ideal The whole place was shabby, painting not done in a long while, rundown and health and safety issue with the chicken wire on the stairs which was broken and in need of urgent attention Tge fridge in our room froze all our goods in the night . No milk provided with the tea and the pillow were rough and ready - for $250 it was a poor show but the reduction because of toilet leak was welcome

We left within the first ten minutes of arriving. There is no form of heating in the rooms and it was just an all round outdated place that needs a lot of attention.

The kitchen was terrible very dirty and rubbish was full and nobody clean. There’re no other tenant in that hotel when we stayed. There was no rubbish bin inside the room as well. Staff passed the key to us then left the hotel already and not appear anymore.

This place has choppy WiFi. It is very hard to communicate with front desk as they don’t speak English. There was only one who could and it’s hard to find him. This place does not have a phone so if you’re driving and if you want to make changes or something then good luck

Run down

Very run down and unclean. Mould spores in our shower and rubbish left outside near car park and in cooking and eating area for couple days. Did not feel comfortable in the environment provided. Generally don’t ask for much- I don’t mind hostels but this was not up to spec.
