Absolutely enjoyed this place and would stay again. Right in the heart of the city and close to everything. Breakfasts were delicious and were some of our favorite meals while in CR.

The property was conveniently located made it easy to get around. The staff was very friendly and it had entertainment every night. The food was also very good.

Wonderfully helpful staff, well air-conditioned rooms, and the included breakfast has several options and is delicious! It is unfortunate that the neighboring business is quite loud at night, but given the relatively low cost for a location so close to central Tamarindo, it was worth the price. Take care not to keep food in the room though, with no fridge or storage areas the ants will find it VERY quickly.

Fantastic breakfast and coffee included!!

We loved the food, friendly staff, comfy bed, shower, cold AC. There is no mini fridge. But there is a grocery store across the street if the kitchen is closed at Refugio.

Divine accommodations in the center of Tamarindo!

Wonderful place in the center of town. Perfect location, and the staff was fantastic, super friendly and warm. The breakfast was amazing, and the coffee too. Totally recommended.

I’m so glad I found Refugio Lodge for my stay in Tamarindo! From the moment I booked, I felt like more than just a guest—Agustin and the team made me feel like a friend. Agustin was amazing with communication, always available to chat, offer great local recommendations, help with booking shuttles or anything else I needed. The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. The cafe is the morning gathering space where you’ll always find amazing coffee — roasted on site, and a delicious breakfast. Afternoons and evenings feature live music, flowing drinks at the bar, and dancing into the night. The lodge itself has a really heartwarming origin story behind it—definitely ask about it when you visit! And as a bonus, the sweetest cat named Pega lives on site and loves greeting guests. I loved here so much that I actually got a tattoo of her before I left for home! I’m already looking forward to coming back with friends and family. Refugio Lodge is truly a gem in Tamarindo, don’t miss it. Pura vida!

Our stay at the Refugio Lodge exceeded all of our expectations, with Augustin and the staff making us feel at home. The hotel was beautiful with clean and spacious rooms. The attached cafe (with free breakfast included) was amazing and i still think about the banana pancakes and coffee. The location was unbeatable being in the heart of Tamarindo, next to the farmers market, walking distance to all the restaurants, and being less than a 5 minutes walk from the beach. The staff helped ensure our trip was memorable with helping coordinate private transportation to and from the Liberia airport and helping schedule excursions to the waterfalls/etc. We are already planning our next trip back and we will be staying here again !!

In the heart of Tamarindo, which means lots of options for food and entertainment. It also means lots of noise from surrounding businesses. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There is room for improvement for the facility but I can see that they are working on this improvements

The people that worked there are very friendly and helpful. Free breakfast is the best breakfast in town and the live music is unbelievable and the drinks are awesome. Hard place to beat.

Nice spot in Tamarindo

Room was clean, staff was friendly and the free breakfast was great. Very loud at night however. Not that it matters because you’re so close to the beach, but the pool isn’t clean.
Christopher, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

The staff, location, included breakfast, and amenities were awesome! The noise at night was VERY loud. There is a club very close by playing thumping music on the weekends. It was quieter during the week but earplugs were a necessity on the weekend. That being said, there were so many positives that I would definitely consider staying there again!

10/10 Exceptional

I had a great stay at Refugio Lodge in Tamarindo! The rooms were nice, clean, and well-maintained, making for a comfortable stay. The location is fantastic—right in the heart of Tamarindo and just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and shops. The staff was wonderful, especially Agustin, who was incredibly helpful and communicative. He was always quick to answer questions, provided great recommendations, and helped us arrange tours. The guys in the cafe and the bar staff were all very kind and friendly. The included breakfast was delicious, a great way to start the day. The attached bar/restaurant was a fun bonus, with live music most nights that added to the lively atmosphere. The only downside is that because of its central location, it can be a bit noisy at night from a nearby nightclub (you can’t hear the live music from the bar in the rooms). We were warned of this in advance and Agustin had offered us earplugs as well. It didn’t bother us at all, but if you are sensitive to noise, it may not be the ideal place for you. However, if you’re looking to be in the middle of the action, this is a great spot. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a convenient and vibrant place to stay in Tamarindo!
Nicole, 7-night trip

4/10 Fair

Please read the reviews and trust that the noise reviews are legitimate. There is a night club 25 meters from the back of these rooms. I did read the reviews and the staff warned us but it was so much worse than I imagined. There was music blaring and bumping till 3 am so much that the walls were shaking. If you are a light sleeper do not book this spot. We ended up leaving after one night.
Amy, 2-night trip

I booked this hotel for my fiance and I. For the most part it was a nice facility. We arrived late at night on a Friday around 10:30pm and the restaurant was turned into a nightclub (which was disclosed when booking). However, the rooms were about 50 meters from the night club and it was very loud. Again, the booking did disclose that it would be loud, but I was not expecting it to be right outside of our room. Inside the room was pretty bare, very limited amenities, but it was clean and matched the pictures I saw online. All and all this hotel was just not for my fiance and I and we checked out after one night. The manager was very kind and refunded our remaining days. I would say that this hotel is a great stay for younger people looking to dive into the nightlife and party. That is just not what we were looking for. The free breakfast was very good and the staff was all very friendly.

Eat here. Don’t sleep here! Great location in the middle of town. Hotel resto has lovely food and attentive service. Hotel is mediocre but safe and clean enough. I stayed one week, but this is not a four-star hotel. It’s situated in a vortex of noise thanks mostly to a neighbouring disco that’s open 9pm – 3am. every. single. day. Earplugs barely muffle the noise. The music is stupid loud, and the hotel’s walls are paper thin. And, there’s even more noise to contend with: live music in the restaurant some evenings; construction noise starting early morning; street noise from cars, all-terrain vehicles, and delivery trucks; scraping noises from the hotel’s metal roof (tree branches? monkeys?). Hotel staff is great except for one who asked me what I do for a living. Don’t ask your guests that. It’s none of your beeswax! Even rocket scientists take vacation, okay? The hotel maintains vestiges of its hostel past. The rooms are long rectangles with 11-foot ceiling. Rooms are in surprising disrepair, or perhaps this is the result of bad renovations. Water in the shower is tepid but plentiful. Got a towel change halfway through the week, but I could not get staff to sweep my room of sand even after two promises that it would be done (it’s a beach town!). The hotel’s pool is small and sad, but the beach is a 5-min walk away. Loved the room’s metal door and deadbolt for safety. Wi-Fi worked reliably and so did cable TV so I could barely hear the TV over music from the disco!!
Judith, 7-night trip

6/10 Good

This was a very disappointing experinece. We really looked forward to our 3 nights and now wish we never stayed there. The room was clean but the bathroom was disgusting and stinky (terrible sewage smell). There were old used bars of soap on the shower wall, a dirt ring in the toiler bowl, and someone elses stuff was left on the bathrooms door handle containing toiletries. There was no hot water. Luke warm at best. And terrible water pressure that it was impossible to shower after a day at the beach. No shampoo/conditioner, just a bar of soap. The room was advertised to have a king and queen beds. The king bed was hard as the floor and our backs started hurting from sleeping on it. The queen bed was actually a double and we couldnt use it instead of the king because it was too small. It was also impossible to fall asleep or stay asleep because the club right next door had parties until 3am everg single night that even earplus didnt drain the noise. It felt like the party was literally inside our room. The hotel staff did not give us a heads up about it. The reception was supposed to be available for inquiries via whats app till 11pm but when messaged to inquire about the noise, our messages werent even acknowledged at all. Not even the next morning. The staff were very friendly and the included breakfast at the cafe was delicious, but unfortunately not worth the price we paid for the hotel at all. We'd have rathered paid for breakfast than stay at this place.
