Beautiful views! Hotel rooms need renovating

In person this hotel does not look like what is on the website video & pictures. We were very surprised & disappointed at the rooms and how run down they actually were in person. The front desk staff tried their best & were very kind in trying to help but there was only so much they could do. Everyone really was so nice. The lobby is lovely & the restaurants & shop as well. However the rooms need to be renovated & cleaned better for sure. A couple examples, floors were slimy feeling, first set of towels we got had hair on them, chairs had staining, there was staining on all the curtains & even the lampshades in the first room we were given.They need a good cleaning and better yet to be replaced. (Be aware that the pool/beach towels they supply are literally the size of a hand towel so it takes about 4 to lay them down to be the size large enough to lay on. ) That being said, the views from all the rooms is wonderful and the location couldn't be more convenient to everything Folly Beach and surrounding areas has to offer! Loved being able to take a quick 25 min ride into Downtown Charleston as well. However due to the state of the Tides rooms we would not stay there again. In addition we are dog lovers however even so, we were shocked at the amount of dogs. Could not get into the elevator or walk around the hotel without running into a dog. (albeit all were very friendly & sweet but still..) So if you are not a "dog person" I would caution to find a different place to stay.

Great location, hotel needs updating…

The location is terrific, right on the beach next to the pier. The hotel staff were very nice. We did not use the pool area, but it looked nice. The room was fine and bed was comfortable. Overall, the hotel shows the signs of wear being on the ocean. The glass sliding door was very difficult to open-close, and probably haven’t been cleaned in awhile. The open walkways from the elevator to room entrance are dirty and floors are typically wet from weather/overnight dew. The floors in our room were ‘sticky’, which even after housekeeping coming in to wash, still had a residue; not sure if it is the leaning product or moisture from being seaside. We are at the restaurant 1 evening and the food and drinks were good. We loved being able to have our dog stay with us, the $100 pet fee is higher than we’re used to, but at least it is per stay, not per night. The location allowed for walking everywhere so there was no need to drive once we arrived.

Disappointed At The Tides Folly Beach

My stay at the Tides wasn't what I expected at all.First and major was the one elevator that went out like the other that already was out of service,next no microwave in room as advertised finally got one delivered ,rooms were not fit for the prices ,no smoking but smelled weed constantly

Great folly hotel

The staff was amazing, very hospitable. Niko and Jay were above and beyond. The elevators were down and made things more difficult but we were only on 4th floor so it wasn’t terrible. I did however leave some clothing items behind and it was very difficult to get ahold of someone and they never found them or even got back with me. I don’t feel like it was handled with care or real concern. My stuff had to be there. It was less than 24 hours when I initially called.

It’s all about location

The location can’t be beat. Beautiful oceanfront location within walking distance to everything folly beach has to offer. They’ve obviously spent tremendous money updating the main floor - which is gorgeous - but stopped after that. The rooms are in dire need of not only updating, but maintenance. Tired furniture, creaky beds, holes in the tiles and walls, patchy paint, the list goes on. Overall we still loved our stay due to location alone.
