“This place stinks like cooked broccoli!” — my 4-year-old’s unfiltered first impression summed it up perfectly. This was our second and final stay at Falcon Cottages. While the pool and grounds are spacious and wonderful for kids, the cottage itself is plagued by a strong, unpleasant odour that hits you immediately and never goes away.
The smell seems to come from several sources: stagnant water in the bathroom (the shower fills with it before draining), a broken tub stopper that meant my child couldn’t take a bath, and a persistent under-the-sink odour that even a toddler couldn’t ignore. Hot water runs out within 5–10 minutes, the bottom bunk mattress is barely 1.5 inches thick with a splintered board underneath, and ant traps throughout the unit didn’t prevent ants from appearing on the kitchen counter and living room floor. Turning on the oven released yet another foul smell, making cooking unappealing.
While the outdoor amenities are great, the cottage itself feels neglected and in need of serious maintenance and foundational upgrades. Between the persistent odours, discomfort, and lack of a truly clean living space, we won’t be returning.
