A beautiful cabin, tucked away.
We had the Foxtail cabin and it was perfect for my sister and I. It had everything we needed and then some. Made me wish we stayed longer than the one night. The restaurant on the premises was very good and the waiter/manager was very attentive. The sauna was a great and unexpected perk.

Hope Valley at its best!
It’s always a pleasure to come here and chill for a couple of days. We are cyclists who enjoy road riding in the area and Desolation is perfectly situated for that. And a wonderful place to come back to after a day of riding for an afternoon of hanging in the Aspen Grove.
All amenities are first rate, staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant is good (especially breakfast).
Nice hiking trails on the property and close by.

Desolation doesn’t disappoint
My complaint is that I’m bummed I have never been here before. What a special place. Aspen everywhere, cool little cabins, good food and drink, fire pits, hiking. The best.

Sorenson’s was part of my childhood. I appreciate how Desolation Hotels honors the history of the property and brought the cabins into the 21st century. We had a marvelous stay and can’t wait to go back.

If you need a reset in Nature, there is no where better to visit! From the birds chirping, the fresh and and the fireplace to the comfy sheets bed and soft towels- the trip is unmatched. The restaurant has home cooked meals that are delightful and the staff is wonderful - especially Grace!
Lastly - they have EV chargers and the cabins are CLEAN!! Glamorous Woodsie setting!

This is a hidden gem. Pictures and videos doesnt do justice of how beautiful the place is. If you want to be in the wilderness and have a quiet time with family and friends, this is the place. A lot of activities and hiking trails that you can do.

Amazing property with friendly staff. Close enough to South Lake, yet far enough away to feel secluded. Steam/sauna is added bonus. Will be back!

Comfortable, cozy stay
We rented a studio cabin. It was fresh and clean. It is well insulated from the cold and the gas fireplace keeps it toasty. I enjoyed the free-standing bathtub. The re-modeling on the property is top-notch. The Sorenson Cafe menu was much the same as always. The food is wonderfully prepared and tasty.

For almost 100 years, this has been an oasis tucked into an aspen stand beneath craggy cliffs and a stone’s throw from a gorgeous valley meadow with an alpine stream wandering through it. You can bring your own food to cook in the amazing cabin kitchens that would make getting snowed in a treat, or you can dine on well-made and locally-sourced choices on the restaurant menu. Then you can stop off in the open spaces to chill, book a sauna session, toast marshmallows in the firepit under the stars, and have the kids wild out in the play areas and ample grounds to wander before you retreat to the most comfortable cabins with beds and pillows as soft as clouds for a restful night. This is my favorite place to unwind and unplug.
