Immaculate property which was spotless inside. As a woman travelling alone I felt safe, everything I needed was within walking distance plus parking is free outside the guest house. Great restaurants across the road. My room was spotless tastefully decorated with everything I needed I slept so well I left later than intended. Would definitely recommend staying, I’ll definitely stay again.

Stayed at Elmswood Guest House recently. It was a single room without an en-suite, which I was aware of beforehand and was absolutely fine for what I needed. Overall, everything was relatively clean, though there were a couple of details that could have been better.. some mould in the shower and quite a bit of hair next to the side of the bed. Nothing catastrophic, but noticeable. The stay itself was straightforward and did the job. It’s very much a “somewhere to sleep” kind of place rather than somewhere you’d go out of your way to experience. The only slightly frustrating part was the checkout process. I couldn’t find the dropbox for the keys when leaving, so ended up putting them back in the lockbox. The email instructions they send try to be friendly but were a bit unclear and not especially helpful in that moment. All in all, it served its purpose, just with a few small things that could be improved.

I booked Elmwood Guest house on the good reviews, I think we must have stayed in a different Guest house. On arrival it was a remote check in with a code for a key safe on the wall of property which wasn't a problem. Considering it was supposed to be a guest house it should be advertised as a room only. We never seen the proprietor. The room was never serviced and only four tea bags and four coffees. Two last two people for 5 days. Bath towels were very thin and worn stained. There is no shower bath mat so when you got out the shower it soaked the floor but that was probably the only time it got cleaned. The room was very grubby dust everywhere thick dust on pulling the mini fridge out to try to switch it on the top had never been cleaned in its life. Thick dust behind the telly thick dust on the bean by the telly bathroom floor was rancid in the corners all the walls are heavily marked and even some graffiti. The fridge and hair dryer have not had a pac test for 4 and 1/2 years. Still got the same old labels on are shown in photos. Worst was went to put the bedside lamp on looking for the switch bare wires exposed half the switch was missing The two chairs in the room don't match and are in a terrible condition. One you dare not sit on it, is that dilapidated?. On the plus side, bedding was clean. Beds were comfortable. The room was quiet and shower was excellent.

10 minute walk to the metro which takes about 25 to 30 minutes to Newcastle Central Station. The location of the accommodation is very near to the town centre and beach etc. There are numerous pubs, restaurants to take advantage of. I met the owner to obtain entry but there is key system available. Would certainly recommend.

Originally booked on another site that said breakfast was available but I cancelled due to finding a cheaper offer and I'm so glad I did as it turns out they do not supply breakfast so I was almost robbed. The stay was lovely bar the people staying upstairs that sounded like a herd of elephants and went to the toilet every 20 minutes till nearly 3am so all you could hear was bang, bang, bang, flush all night. I like that there is no curfew and we were able to have late night out Friday but we made the effort to be as quiet as possible unlike others staying there slamming doors and stomping up and down the stairs. Id likely stay again but maybe not on a weekend if I'm going to lose so much sleep

Excellent stay at this, brilliant Guest House. The cleanliness, was of the highest order. The beds & bedding, also , were of good quality, & very comfortable. The décor, was, modern,& stylish. Everything needed, for a comfortable stay. We would definitely recommend, this little Gem, to anyone, thinking of visiting South Shields.

Lovely B&B and friendly owners, although due to the current situation we didn't see much of them. Exceptionally clean and comfortable, with a good shower (always a priority for us). Good location for access to the town centre and sea front. We would definitely stay again.

I was in room 2 which was a single room but it was clean, well maintained and exceptionally comfortable. It was airy given its size but the window came with a blackout blind. I would definitely stay here again. I didn't meet the owners but communication was excellent and they spoke to me on the telephone to ensure that everything was satisfactory.
