8/10 Very good

Lovely village location and very close to the kennet and avon canal. great walking stop over with very reasonable food and drink.

The building itself is fine, it’s just a little unloved looking. However, we understand it’s closing for a refurb at the end of the Summer which makes sense. We were met at the property and shown around and the room which is clean and perfectly adequate for our one night stay. Things we liked most: * the price * the village/area within walking distance. * the peace (no main road noises) Things that would benefit from improvement: * cleaner ‘shared’ areas (kitchen and the bathroom that’s not ensuite…I.e. the bathroom light pull. * a general more loved feel to the property, tended to pot plants etc Overall a pleasant overnight stop that met our needs for a reasonable price :)

Nice and clean. Comfy bed. Nice view from the window, and the staff at the adjoining oub were welcoming and friendly.

Staff were very pleasant and we had a very nice meal in the pub in the evening we arrived. The room wasn’t so good. The room needed a good hoover everywhere as there were cobwebs hanging from wall and ceiling. We were in room 6 ground floor and we were not able to open the window as the hang was broken, which seems like fire risk. At night we could hear scampering of what can only be small furry animals in the ceiling.

Weekend Stay

I absolutely loved my stay here, the staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. I took my two dogs who also loved it. The food at the pub was brilliant.

Check in is supposed to be after 2pm and we arrived at 5pm but we couldn't check in until 6pm when the pub opened so we had to wait in the car until then. The room didn't have any unused soap (only an open squirty carex handsoap), no small shampoo/ conditioner and there was no cooked breakfast, apart from an open butter & jam, and some cereals. Bathroom has no ventilation. At some point in the evening we were served a beer that tasted like cider but after asking if that was correct, no-one gave us any explanation. Food was nice. Beers were nice but fairly expensive. Location closed to the canal is nice. The pub is lovely and cosy. The staff was friendly.

it is real old country living and the people are lovely. The beds were great The birds in the morning were spectacular. We loved staying in the old thatched roof cottage. The beer is great. Very English cuisine.

Room was a little on the small side. That's the one and only negative. The arrangement of the B&B in a separate house means you get use of lounge and kitchen, breakfast (cereals and toast) whenever you choose. The pub itself is friendly, characterful helpful staff, reasonable choice of meals.

6/10 Good

The room was clean and comfortable although very small, but nowhere to hang wet coats. Ensuite bathroom good, but only hand soap in the shower. There was a lounge to sit in for more space and inwhich they accomodated our bicycles. Disappointed to be told on arrival that breakfast was selfserve cereals (limited choice)and white toast. The young man added a bowl of fruit at our request. There was no butter and empty marmalade jars. Milk was in an already opened container. Tea and coffee basic. Very little covid19 compliance. This stay cost £70 the same as the 4* hotel for previous night. This property is the eqivalent of a hostel and should have similar rates. We were not happy as we feel we were ripped off.

8/10 Very good

It was very quiet, which was so nice. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. Unfortunately, they forgot to provide us with milk and bread for breakfast so we had to ask for it. There were issues with the toilet not flushing properly in the room as well. Also, we were there for dinner: “pie night”, which was absolutely delicious but they could have warned us we would be waiting for an hour for the food to arrive. That was a bit disappointing. I suppose this is all just coming back online after the pandemic so we would definitely give them another try.

The room was a single room size with a double bed leaving little room for anything else! There was no tea and coffee facility in the room and anyway there was no room for it. There was a shared kitchen dinner and lounge and one had to help oneself to boxes of cereal left on the units. Only marmalade was supplied and was in the fridge; a loaf of bread was also on the kitchen unit. The windows of the the whole house did not seemed to have been cleaned for a long time and country spiders and cobwebs were everywhere. The only member of staff seemed to live in the pub next door and was not over friendly; reasonably good food was served in the evenings at the pub, which like most of the village was a delightful thatched roof property. A railway lay nearby and the noise was disturbing when a train passed. This property was not in my opinion value for money and needs redecorating and updating.

A quiet getaway

I had a comfortable room in the b and b annex to the quaint friendly Royal Oak pub where I chose a venison and and Stilton pie from the special tuesday dinner pie menu. Delicious! I enjoyed my walks around the village and along the nearby canal , then stayed a second night because of the ambiance and proximity to several ancient sites

Lovely room, in picturesque village

I managed to book this quite late for our trip, as we needed a dog friendly b&b at the last minute. The house is all b&b next the pub owners. Gorgeous village of many thatched cottages, out in the country. Walking along the Kennett and Avon canal. Room clean, plenty space for the 3 of us and our dog. Large garden for dogs to run in. DIY breakfast in house, plenty of selection of cereals, and fresh milk. Tea coffee making in kitchen any time. Friendly staff.

A great stay. Too short!!

I found it a great stopover on my walk along the K&A canal. Room was quite small but I was single so totally adequate. Breakfast room, common area very clean, comfortable and well equipped. My dinner at the very popular adjoining pub was excellent and very reasonably priced. All in all, full marks!! I’ve stayed in a number of properties in various price ranges along the canal and the Royal Oak, Wooten Rivers was at the top of the list for a small village setting. Should have stayed longer and explored more. Thanks again

The rooms are in a converted house. I had the only ground floor room with en suite. There is a kitchen with free tea/coffee/ cereal and toast but no cooking facilities. The room is very small, with no room to walk around the bed and no drawers to put clothes in
