comfortable but weak wifi

Overall comfortable, though a bit far from city centre, driving to here is ok,it takes 15 mins. The WiFi is not good, can’t connect via iPad, always show too much subscribers, & very weak connection signal when using smart phone

I was really disappointed with my stay I usually rate IHG hotels and travel for work but I only managed about 2 hours of sleep because I was in a room opposite and between groups of men who messed around in the corridor and slammed doors until midnight! I tried to call reception as as solo female didn't feel safe or as though I could challenge, unfortunately got no answer. The outside noise isn't great either. Maybe more mindful allocation of rooms for solo guests would help and keeping an eye on unruly guests.

Excellent service

This was an ‘extra’ overnight stay on our way to a golf tournament at another venue. The receptionist, Charley, was very polite and helpful and apologised for the fact that Hotels.com had not mentioned in my booking that car taking needed to be paid for separately…the only ‘fault’ we could find was that the breakfast only catered for scrambled eggs - no fried or poached options! :-(

Good Breakfast - Awful Beds - Overworked Staff

When we arrived at the hotel we unsuccessfully tried to book the parking as advised by the notice boards but when we went into the hotel there was a touch screen to do this so managed it in the end. When we got to reception we were told that the chef had gone home early due to fatigue so there were no evening meals, on this occasion it wasn't a problem for us as we had eaten on the ferry from Holland to Harwich. The receptionist gave us our room key but when we entered the room we found it had an adjoining locked door and the family next door had the TV turned up very loud and the children were being very noisy. We went back to reception where the receptionist found us another room which was quieter. The room was quite tired looking with the middle table missing/broken so I had nowhere to put my tea in the morning. The beds were the worst beds we have ever slept on, old soft and lumpy. The bathroom was small but had lovely fluffy towels and Dove toiletries, the shower was good with a powerful spray. Breakfast in the morning was really good with lots of variety, cereals, fruit & yogurt, and lots of hot items - couldn't fault this except the soft fruit and the orange juice was sweetened. The staff at reception were very good but it was obvious they were under a lot of pressure multitasking reception and bar duties. We wouldn't stay at this hotel again due to the awful beds.

Easter break

We stayed for a little family trip during the Easter holidays. We were given two double beds rather than a bed and a sofa bed which was better. Breakfast was good and we had an evening meal which was ok too. It was fairly quiet even though there were lots of work vans parked overnight. There were a few country parks, the beach and Colchester itself to visit.

Good overnight hotel

Good stay here again - breakfast was hotter this time which was appreciated. Room comfortable and shower was good. I don't appreciate being charged £8 for parking which was previously free, but overall it's still an OK hotel for a business one-nighter.
