A place by the river

This is an older family run motel that is showing its age but at the same provides a night’s stay at a reasonable price. We had one of the units with a king -sized bed and a view of the river. The motel provided a typical breakfast but with malted waffles you could cook.

We ate our carryout dinner outside looking at the nearby Connecticut River. That was a treat, unlike any other motel we have ever stayed at. The desk staff was cordial and quick. The coffee was delicious. The facility is older and the bathroom smaller than most, but the bed was comfortable, and we slept well.

The owners seemed nice but had to be called to the front desk for any questions or service. There were issues with the room like an empty (or broken?) body wash dispenser, hard to turn on bathroom faucet, an empty tissue dispenser pulled away from the wall, and no coffee maker in the room. A creamer dispensed at the breakfast area was curdled. Still, it is in a lovely location, and the very basic room was clean overall.

Infested with bedbugs. Checked room before bring stuff in. Showed the office. She gave me a refund. Didn’t offer me a new room. Probably had bedbugs as well.

A motel from hell

The room was dark. The bathroom room was was barely acceptable. The sink was cracked and had no stopper. The towels were scratchy and very thin. I was out all day and returned to a room with an unmade bed and a waste basket not emptied. They say breakfast included,but they only had coffee.

Our bathroom was gross… Poor lighting, a toilet that wouldn’t flush, and the shower that kept changing temperature from scalding hot to freezing cold… Management said they fixed the toilet but did not - they only made the toilet more gross… They did offer to let us change rooms but we were too settled in by then… Our previous stay was a bit better so we tried it a second time. It will be our last…

You DON'T get what you paid for!

On the website, this place is advertised with free breakfast. When we finished checking in the person said there was no breakfast (free or not) because it's winter(?!?). I insisted that this was mentioned in the listing and he all but yelled at me that I could go somewhere else. It was late and I had young kids in the car so that wasn't an option. To be clear - you don't have to serve breakfast, but you can't advertise falsely. People book and plan based on these things. Then, we could not get the TV to show anything! They had an Xfinity box, but all it would display was the settings page. We pressed every button, Googled the model - nothing worked. Finally, there was no lock (not even a broken one) in the bathroom. Terrible experience and terrible service.

The room was very disgusting.. Dirty.. Dead insects.. Would not walk on floors.. kept sox on.. Would not sleep in bed.. kept clothes on.. Strange gurgling sounds from bathroom.. Wall paper had holes in it.. Worst place we ever stayed.. PLUS most expensive place in 4 days in Vermont !!.. We feel sorry for the 'managers', who were nice.. Hope they were not cheated into buying the place
