Great site, near major attractions

Nice quite hotel with friendly staff. Just make sure you understand that the taps in the rooms are Thermostatic, that is the left controls the flow and the right controls the heat. There is a little sign on the mirror but....

Country hotel W Chillington

Very easy early check in with luggage to be delivered to room when ready. Unfortunately message not passed on so with late arrival at 10.15pm and desk closed unable to access luggage and medications etc, and no response to telephone call as unstaffed after 10pm. Bar closed too. Room very comfortable and good continental breakfast. Very comfortable country hotel.

2/10 Poor

The staff are tremendous. There were three issues, I had to wait 40 minutes for a dinner slot. I was told I need a reservation and booked 7:30pm and was taken to my table at 8:10pm. I had to wait 10 minutes at reception to pick up my key on night two, as my room payment had not been recorded at reception. There was alot of mould around the edge of the bath which I discreetly reported on my first night which was not cleaned up. However the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Lovely, quirky old hotel. Staff were not always to be found but were helpful when needed. We only had the continental breakfast and it was as expected.

Needs improving

Hotel could do with refreshing in all areas. Very little sound proofing in annex rooms. No cold mains on the menu even though it's a heatwave! Wifi and phone signal patchy

Worth every penny

Very comfortable stay. Food was great a d especially the breakfast. Only one concern to note. There are 2 rooms that adjoin the main stairs, and both get all the noise from downstairs through the evening and specially later on as voice's get louder after a few bevvies have been consumed. Even after last orders people go to the lounge and continue with even louder voices. And tbis room is directly below one of these rooms. This makes for a noisy stay in certain rooms because there are no courteous notices to advise and respect for other guests after 11pm.

successful stay

We found the staff welcoming and friendly. The rooms were comfortable with everything one would need for a short stay. The breakfast buffet bar simply groaned with a huge range of cold food and drinks and there was a good menu for cooked alternatives. We were only able to fit in one evening meal and we went for the specials choosing fish for both starter (trout paté) and for mains – as we were near the sea, we decided on ‘catch of the day’ which turned out to be sea bass. The latter was both delicious and substantial – being presented to us by the very competent chef. This certainly was the highlight of our visit.

The food was of a terrible standard but at least they didn’t charge for our mains and apologised

Generally very good but room cleaning each day seemed to be very inconsistent.

Average

Hotel has character but a bit tired. Couple of things broken in room. Food was average, with a wait of 1 1/2 hrs for main meal which was not very hot. Staff friendly
2-night trip

8/10 Very good

A minor disappointment this time round.

Disappointed in our overall presentation in our room. The hotel had very nicely upholstered furniture but the sofa in our room was unsuitable and quite tatty. It felt unfinished. We couldn't rely on an evening meal bring available as the hotel cater for outside functions. We have stayed here before and our experience then was better than this stay. The hotels position for touring is ideal

Lovely period apartment, great hotel

The room was very comfortable and homely. I was woken by a droning noise which on inspection was coming from either a boiler or air conditioning unit outside by the kitchen area. I put the tv on low to cover it and did go back to sleep. The check in was smooth and friendly. Unfortunately the heating wasn’t working but the site manager came over and discovered that the boiler wasn’t working so there was no hot water or heating. I was offered another room but I had already unpacked and it was late so he brought me another blanket. I would definitely stay here again as the hotel is lovely and service excellent. Okay there was a problem, but sometimes things like I had do happen but it’s how things are dealt with are important.

Awful experience- avoid at all costs

Avoid Avoid Avoid. Never have I ever been subjected to such rude management and staff as this establishment offers. On arrival met at reception by a lady who never smiled and made you feel like an inconvenience. Told your rooms there and basically threw the key at us. Went for a meal in the restaurant and the wrong food was rung through the till and charged (only spotted as I checked the receipt) I went to ask if we could have what we ordered and was told it was a mistake and the correct food was being cooked. I had to them ask for the difference to be refunded as what was rung through was more expensive to be told “we’ll you’re getting what you want” Basically made to feel guilty for asking for “my” money back!!!! The room was booked with complimentary breakfast. When we went to have breakfast we ordered a full English and a vegetarian breakfast. When we sat down the staff member came over and told us it would be chargeable and when I said breakfast was included in the room- as per the booking- I was told yes but not anything cooked-continental only( this was not stipulated anywhere. Went to speak to the manager Andy who was the rudest man I’ve ever dealt with. As I was approaching reception I heard the lady who took the order slagging us off The contempt was unbelievable. He basically said tough and if you don’t like it leave. His defence was “you enjoyed your meal yesterday didn’t you?” If I can save anyone from this awful establishment I will be happy

10/10 Exceptional

The property had a large car park, checking in was easy. We stayed in a twin room outside the main property. The room was like a little cottage overlooking the garden. Inside the room, it was very spacious and traditional, with beams. It had a shower and bath, with a separate toilet. The beds were large and comfortable. The room had everything we needed seating area, tv , also the wifi was good. We ate at the restaurant in the evening, the food was exceptional. I had a burger, chips and slaw and it is one of the best I have ever had. We also had breakfast, the continental breakfast was included in the nightly rate. The cooked breakfast was £10 extra. Both are extremely good value and delicious. I found the staff on Sunday to be very friendly and welcoming. All in all a great place to stay and value for money I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.
