The only problem was the quite non-transparent after-hours check-in procedure. The first time I was sent the link to the OpenKey app, my phone number hadn't even been put into the system, so OpenKey couldn't find my reservation. Then when I was sent a check-in message again (on the day of my reservation), there wasn't enough information about the OpenKey check-in process.
I tried to use OpenKey on my phone on the outside door of my room, and it didn't work. Lucky that I thought to try OpenKey on the front desk entrance! But then OpenKey didn't work on my hallway room door either. Lucky that my roommate thought to look behind the front desk and found a key card envelope left for us! None of this crucial information was provided in any of the check-in messages or via the OpenKey app.
Other than the rather alarming check-in confusion late at night with no human contact or back-up check-in support, the stay was just fine. The room was quiet, comfortable and well maintained.
But on leaving the next morning, we had to track down someone in the attached restaurant to confirm that we couldn't lock either of the room doors on departure, and had to drop our room key cards into an unsecured box. So anybody could have just walked into our room after we'd left, and by default we might be held responsible for any damage they did? Not reassuring!
Re-think the room access and security issues to be a bit more user-friendly, and I'll be happy to visit again.
