Broken stuff

Hot tub was cold water only. Shower didnt work. Bathroom door is swollen and wont shut. Had to slam entry door to get to shut. Room wasnt ready 2 hrs after check in was. Pool chipping paint but is nice because its deeper than most pools but its outdoors and is cold.

Pleasant but in different.

The fellow who checked me in at about 4:30 PM on July 18 was pleasant but not very helpful. He seemed to be in a hurry to “get me out of the office and to my room” I asked for recommendation to a good seafood restaurant and he said “I don’t eat seafood“. I asked which of the two ferry services to Machinaw Island were better. He said one was twice as expensive and took twice as long as the other. When I subsequently inquired with three other locals about town, all three of them said, “both ferry services are the same!” I guess I asked too many questions (total of two) after the second question, he directed me to a stand in the corner of the office which had about 30 different brochures

It was an older hotel, harvest gold bath fixtures, newer carpet, bed was okay, room was clean. We booked it for the location, view, balcony king room & dog friendly. We would stay here again.

Needs some updating

It’s an older hotel…needs some updating! Breakfast was okay! Need some non sugar cereal and non sugar oatmeal! Half and half as not all like sugary creamer! The curtains need a hemming as they cover the air conditioning unit preventing the room to get cool without shoving the base curtain away!

The property is old inside and out. The walk way to the rooms has old, dirty and rundown carpeting. Doors don’t lock well drapes are old. Toilet is real old and has to hold the handle to flush properly. Oh, and they give you a plunger in the room…bedding is terrible, uncomfortable. When we arrived, the room was hot and smelly, we opened the doors to air it out then turned AC on to make it more bearable. AVOID!!!

Fine for an overnight

First and foremost, the staff is really nice. Our room faced the beach and there was a lovely area to hang out by multiple firepits and the beach was very clean — it is a great spot to read a book in the morning. The rest of the stay was meh. The shower was really difficult to work (the knob was loose) and the extra lock on our door (the one that flips across the upper part) was broken off. Beds are firm and so are the pillows — my neck hurt so bad when I woke up. Mini fridge worked, but parts were broken off. Smelled “cottagey.” Basically, it was very worn and seems like it was last updated in the 1990s. The breakfast is styrofoam cups of coffee, cereal, apples, Quaker Oats, and an assortment of long-lasting pastries and bagels. Overall, if you are day tripping to Mackinac, or staying overnight as part of a long distance trip (like we were), this is a fine place to sleep. Just remember it is cheap, and you get what you pay for.
