The hallway was filthy and the room stank of urine. It was uninhabitable, and my family decided we could not stay there. I talked with the night manager, who was sympathetic, but he said the hotel was full - much of it with "long-term stays" who behave poorly. So we found a room at the nearby Clarion Inn, which was clean and pleasant. Expedia customer service responded efficiently in processing my request for a refund, however, the end result was that the Motel 6 property manager refused to refund us anything.
