VERY nice staff, starting with Rodrick at check-in, Taye the next morning, the entire staff aims to please, working with what they've got, an older hotel that needs some basic updating. Our room was clean, the beds very comfortable, basic towels for a decent shower (yes, the fixtures are older, like the old shower/tub, but everything was clean, and water good and hot for a nice shower.)
When we got to our room, it smelled like cigarette smoke, so I went back to reception and they very nicely gave us another room a couple doors down, and even though it also had an odor, it was more like French fries so we could live with that...the smell never dissipated, though, so we joked that we'd get to our next destination smelling like food. (And the smell got to be a little more like fried fish...but it was ok.)
The biggest problem? NO WIFI at all. It was raining heavily when we arrived, continued through the evening, and when I mentioned to Rodrick that we had no WiFi, he said that this happens when it's raining a lot because they have satellite WiFi, understandable. However, the next morning, gorgeous weather, and still no WiFi...so the manager said they've been having trouble with the satellite reception and that a technician would be out soon...since we were only there one night, OK, but if we'd stayed longer or had business, that would have been unacceptable.
There are some sketchy characters who seem to be "residents" yelling outside, but that calmed down by 11pm.
