Great stay at the Hawthorne-Had dinner in the tavern-great food and cocktails. Room was clean. They said it might be hot and they could bring a fan up but temperature was fine. Great location-right in the center. Two things of note-we stayed on the 6th floor-room 622. 6th floor is the pet friendly floor (we didn’t have any pets) and my husband opened the door to get ice and there was a mini Doberman pinscher (cute!) desperate to get in our room-then the owner came around the corner and could not figure out why he wanted to get in our room so bad. My husband went in search for the ice and saw the couple with the dog was staying in the room that would be exactly parallel to ours on other side. I had a great sleep. Husband did as well except around 3 or so he was awoken to a hard poking several times on his shoulder. He said I was dead asleep and facing away so was not me. We are both FAR from superstitious and don’t believe in ghosts etc so his mind went to someone broke in-but everything was locked up quite securely. He even checked under the bed! After the fact we found out about its ghost stories with specifically the 6th floor-specifically room 612. Again we were room 622 so does 612 (with the doggie) mirror ours? Other people have also mentioned getting poked as well which we, again, didn’t see about the hotel till after. So between the desperate dog and the poke probably nothing but most creeped out I’ve been in a while!! (Not so creeped out that we wouldn’t go back!)

This is a cute hotel with lots of history. Great location and would definitely stay here again.
We stayed on Level 6. Noted as being haunted. Were some odd things we noticed but tried to not get ourselves scared.

We stayed for just one night. The person working at the desk when we checked in wasn't very friendly or welcoming, but we didn't let it ruin our mood. It was a sisters getaway. The hotel was perfectly "old", and it reminded us of our childhood home with the doors and feel of the hotel. We had cocktails and apps at the bar at the hotel. The bartender was great! She was super friendly, and it was a relaxing time before we headed out to explore. The beds were comfy and the room, albeit a little small, was cozy. I would definitely return!

The lobby is gorgeous. The room was small but functional. Staff were incredibly sweet and helpful. Parking was a breeze. The only down side would be that the room was oppressively hot. Thankfully, we were able to crack the windows. Will definitely be our hotel of choice for future visits.

The Hawthorne was an elegant, friendly port in a snowstorm after we lost power at home. We were delighted that our dog could join us there, and the staff was warmly welcoming to all of us. The building and neighborhood are rich with Historic charm, the staff is attentive, and the tavern with its fireplace and beautiful wood paneling is a distinctive spot for a meal or a drink. Nathaniel would be proud.

Plumbing must be very old as it took 10 minutes for the water to heat up every time i stayed here. Showers were very weak which was a subpar experience. Hard to control room temp so in winter it is so warm in the rooms. The hotel is a beautiful old hotel with not so beautiful old plumbing. Staff at front desk are great as i am sure tgey get these complaints all rhe time.

We only stayed one evening at the Hawthorne. The guest staff was very friendly and the rooms were spotless. I would definitely stay again as it is within walking distance to all the attractions. They also have ample parking for you to park you vehicle. A+

We stayed here because it was one thing on our bucket list and we like history and haunted stuff. I have to say the room was very clean and the staff fantastic as it was our wedding anniversary also. We had asked if we were able to stay in a particular room and they allowed us too. We definitely would stay here again. We had a great time.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem this weekend for our first Valentine’s Day together, and we absolutely loved it. The entire experience felt special from the moment we arrived. The architecture, artwork, and historic layout give the hotel so much character, and the atmosphere perfectly captures Salem’s classic, slightly spooky charm without ever feeling gimmicky. The vibe is really what makes this place stand out — cozy, historic, and just mysterious enough to make the stay memorable. We even had two small moments that felt a little… suspicious on the paranormal side, which honestly just added to the fun and the story of the trip. Beyond that, the service was excellent across the board. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the location couldn’t be better for exploring Salem on foot. Overall, it was a fantastic stay and a perfect place to spend a Valentine’s weekend. We’d absolutely come back again.

We were given such excellent treatment! Love the hotel and come here each time that we are in Salem. Fantastic location and the hotel is beautiful - lobby is gorgeous, tea and water and coffee on hand in the lobby, a great tavern and even though there are not a good amount of vegan options at Nathaniel’s restaurant (but a ton of restaurants nearby that are convenient!) they do have beautiful music being played, and singers! Can’t wait to return!!
