Very Disappointing Stay

I recently stayed at the Soho Ottawa and was extremely disappointed with the experience from start to finish. First, the smell in our room was unpleasant and noticeable the moment we walked in. The shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor, making it unsafe and messy to use. On top of that, the internet bandwidth was weak and unreliable, which was frustrating for even basic browsing. The room temperature was uncomfortably warm upon arrival, and we had to contact the concierge to reset the room thermostat before it would work properly. While this eventually fixed the issue, it was an inconvenience that should not have been necessary. We also had to call multiple times just to get replacement towels, which speaks to the lack of attention to guest needs. Overall, between the maintenance issues, poor amenities, and lack of responsive service, this was not the standard of quality or comfort one would expect at this price point

Nous avons passé une agréable séjour à l’établissement Soho, le logement était propre, spacieux, bien agencé. Juste petit bémol, l’établissement se situe un peu éloigné du centre ville, il ne fournissent pas de sel et de poivre, ni de gel douche et il y a eu un problème de canalisation au sein de l’établissement, donc pas d’eau pendant une bonne partie de la journée,mais ce sont des choses qui arrivent. Tout le reste était satisfaisant. Le quartier est assez sympa, calme avec pleins de petits restaurants aux alentours et beaucoup de parcs, très agréables.

This property is listed as a hotel but is not. It is a condo and set up more like an air bnb. It was far from clean when we arrived. Who knows when the sheets had last been washed. We washed the sheets as soon as we saw the makeup and eyelashes still in on the pillows and sheets in the guest room. In the primary, there looked to be bodily fluid stains on the bed. The sheets were dirty as well. I cleaned the kitchen when we got there as there were still crumbs everywhere and the floors looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks at least. I left a message and called the “emergency” number if concierge wasn’t available and never got a response. The price was in fact too good to be true.

With doors and garage requiring fobs to enter the hotel felt very secure and safe. The apartment was well equipped with full kitchen and bathroom supplies. The bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet. Unfortunately, it was not exactly the same as the photos on the Hotels.com website. The floor boards were coming apart (a potential tripping hazard) and the paint on the bathroom walls was peeling. Also, the photos indicated a balcony, yet my room did not have one. Being near Little Italy and Dow’s Lake made it easy to find some nice restaurants and pubs just a short walk away.

Decent stay, but not as expected. Location was nice and within walking distance to Little Italy, which was lovely. However, the Concierge never did answer any of my phone calls during my stay and general interactions could have been friendlier (I suggest being prepared to state that you are there for a short term stay and in which room before they abruptly ask, "Who are you?" so it doesn't catch you off guard). I'd ask to avoid a mezzanine level booking if possible (we were assigned this and it was a bit disappointing). Room was very hot for the duration of our stay despite adjusting the thermostat, drinking glasses were chipped and not very clean, and maintenance work started just before 0730am above our room which was not anticipated nor were we informed about it. Generally, it was a decent place to put our heads down as we were out for much of the day but for the amount paid, I would definitely consider other options.

kitchenette was nice feature and having the washer and dryer was convenient, they even included soap for a load. Water pressure in the shower was low for my liking. Some of the flooring, especially around the washer and dryer was popping out, which is a little unprofessional. Everything was great otherwise.
