The hotel was very nostalgic and was like a trip back in time. Food was great and the staff was friendly. The elevator was very slow and there was no desk in the room, but that was part of the old time charm. Only real negative was the ice machine was noisy and my room was right next to it. I will stay there again.

Bed was comfortable, water was hot, plenty of space, and the free breakfast was cooked to order! We were competely satisfied! Can’t beat the price with BF included. There’s a bar next door with great pizza too! I’d recommend for the budget traveler.

Hotel Ottumwa has so much potential but unfortunately was not a place I would recommend. The staff are very friendly but many times the reception is totally empty and a person has to wait 5-10 minutes before someone assists you. This becomes quite a hassle since the keycards for the rooms never work and one is constantly having to ask for them to be fixed so that you can get into the room. Once you walk towards your room the hallways reek of cigarettes. And unfortunately the rooms are not too much better. The beds are clearly old and not comfortable to sleep on and if you are sensitive to smells you will walk out with a headache. I didn’t once have warm water when wanting to shower and the water pressure was terrible. Unfortunately I would not recommend this property if asked.

Unique and beautiful, also great breakfast. Nice to hear the locals talk in the morning. Wish the cafe space was still open, but hope it comes back someday. The place itself just needs updated carpet and maybe fresh wallpaper. I did enjoy my stay and will continue to come back Good prices and great time.

I always check reviews before booking hotels and they were all good for Hotel Ottuma. I knew it was an older hotel which did not bother me because all the reviews were so positive. The bed slept comfortably and the breakfast was good. The water took some time to get hot. But, the big complaint I have is this...My sister and I were sitting at the little table eating a meal and I smelled something atrocious. It was the chair I was sitting on! It smelled like feces!!! I went down to the front desk and told the girl and asked that it be removed and replaced. She was surprised/shocked. I told her it was undeniable. It was taken care of but no offer of compensation for the room. I should have insisted. Ecoli is no joke.
