Single family house expanded into 8 units shared….

Our experience at Azur was disappointing, primarily due to poor communication, misleading advertising, and unprofessional management. 1. Severe Lack of Communication Our booking confirmation through Expedia explicitly stated that we needed to contact the lodge directly. However, the phone number provided was invalid. Upon arrival, we found an unmanned front desk with only a blackboard directing us back to the confirmation email for check-in—an absolute dead end. There was no clear way to reach staff for assistance, making the check-in process frustrating and disorganized. 2. Deceptive Photos & Misleading Advertising The lodge’s online pictures painted a vastly different image than reality. The property looked far more worn-down than advertised, with noticeable signs of neglect. There was no sign of the jacuzzi that was supposedly included in the amenities. The lack of maintenance was evident throughout the property, which also happened to be listed for sale—something that might explain the overall disregard for guest experience. 3. Unprofessional & Dismissive Management We requested an upgrade to Azur Beach House on three separate occasions, only to be met with vague, dismissive responses from the so-called manager. When I asked for his name to document our negative experience in a review, he refused to spell it out and ultimately hung up on me after I asked for the third time. We got a last minute deal for 1 night in Tallows Villa at Azur, and we were very pleasantly surprised. We had undercover free parking, which you entered from the lane behind the property, which was excellent. Self check-in was fine, and the villa was beautifully cool on arrival. The villa was very spacious and clean; the king sized bed was super comfy; the decor was nice and minimal; the bathroom was big, with a good shower, and the air con was fabulous on a really hot day and night. We had a big verandah with a very large daybed and a beautiful cane hanging chair. We didn't get to use the pool, but the entire pool and outdoor area looked gorgeous. There was, however, no information whatsoever regarding the property's communal kitchen - or that breakfast ingredients were supplied for the use by guests, and there were appliances and a large fridge for use - which would have been very helpful. And the phone was not manned and no-one returns calls. They did eventually reply to my email just before we drove to the property. We would definitely stay again.

This is an absolute delight, very comfortable, spacious and well thought inclusions. There is a communal kitchen with a pantry for breakfast and meal preparation if needed. There is parking at the rear of the property.

Not as pictured. No one there for check in - had to call a number to get the code to the door (that you could literally just push open), then they tell you which room you are in and the door is open and unlocked. The key is inside the room. There is no spa/hot tub as pictured. I wish I read the reviews a bit more before booking. The shower was moldy. Definitely an older building and it shows. The A/C was a pain to work and the TV remote did not work at all. The bed was nice and it was decorated well but not the luxury feel you would expect from the listing. I will be electing to stay somewhere else on my next trip to Byron.

Don’t bother.

It started with someone else in my room and when he left the owner did t even check if all was ok, she seemed annoyed I’d called her to tell her about it. The place is very run down with doors rotting wood and tiles broken in the bathroom. The shower was full of mould. There is construction right next door that started at 7am with jackhammer and circular saws, no mention of this on the booking site or at check in. It seems it’s next door to a “party house” that went until after 1am. Spa is non existent, old tea bags in pot plants. I could go on forever. Will never be back!!!!!

I dont even know where to begin with reviewing this horrific experience we had at this property. The house is NOT a luxury booking, and should never be listed for the price it is. The host is uncontactable before, during or after the stay. The accommodation is unsafe and not secure. There is no parking on site, and the rest of the shared space is a glorified hostel. We "checked in" without anyone on site and after seeing what we walked into, we called Expedia and said we could not leave our family here. They said it was up to the host to honor a refund. We tried calling, messaging, dm'ing on social and emailing with no response either. I spent that evening driving around with my three young children in tears looking for somewhere else to stay after an 8 hour travel day in peak holiday period. They charged us almost 1k a night for a scam. We received an email the next day saying they refused to refund us. And Expedia said, that was all they could do. The next day we went back to the accommodation and saw that there were people living in it, and it was listed as booked online. We confirmed this with the guests. Not only is this highly illegal but immoral and disgusting that Expedia and this host could allow this to happen. We are still fighting them on our refund. I will not stand by and allow anyone else to be scammed like we were for something this despicable. Shame on you Azur.

The room itself is lovely, I note there is minimal soundproofing and a lot of shared common areas, it is important to know that the hotel allows parties so if you are a light sleeper (like me) don't stay here unless you plan on spending your nights listening to other visitors' drunken midnight conversations and stomping around.

Perfect place for couples - away from the main town and has nice side streets to cut down onto the beach. Pool is beautiful and the family that runs it, is lovely.

Do not stay there

The worst stay after nearly 2 months travelling Australia. All these things have been brought up, but nothing happened so far apart from replys of the same person who is responsible for the mess and accousing us from lying. Good thing, pictures do not lie.... Up to this day no reply from owner/manager. A short list: The toilet rim was covered in Sh**, no idea how this could not have been seen by the cleaner. There was a syringe still lying in the bathroom. The safe was broken and the sink would not drain for hours, hence we had to clean our teeth in the shower. Once we got hold of the receptionist-manager she did clean the dirt, but the toilet wasn’t clean still. Also, she apparently put a liquid into the drainage - which made no difference at all. A broken jar in the kitchen caused my partner with a small eye injury, which had to be checked and medicine was required. We also mentioned this and no one even offered to reimburse the doctors fee or anything at all. We also mentioned our issues to the apparent brother of the manager (who told us his brother/owner was overseas) who said he would get in touch, which never happened so far. He also admitted that they were not satisfied with the current receptionist/manager. We also wrote a complaint e-mail which was answered saucily by the same receptionist/manager who was no help in the first place. Spare your time and money and stay at any other place in Byron. We have no idea how they achieved such good rating.

Byron Bay retreat

With only 6 rooms it was less like a hotel. Room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The communal kitchen area was a wonderful addition where there was complimentary juices, coffee tea etc and breakfast items. Complimentary Netflix was a great bonus. would have loved to use the spa but was covered so figured not working and no one to ask. Overall a cool place to stay. Would stay again
