The accommodation is not what it advertised

Pelican Sands Scamander listed on Hotels.com as 4 Star but is a very basic 2 Star accommodation. We selected and paid for a 4 Star accommodation as we were on a driving trip so hoping to stay somewhere reasonably comfortable to have a good rest. However, this place basically ruined our plan for the following day. We had little rest for the one-night stay. The place is very rundown, it is nothing like what it shows in the photos. The blinds are broken, inside the living area can be seen from the road at night, the curtains next to the beds are just a thin fabric and narrower than the width of the window, so the sunshine flooded the room about 5am. There is bedside lamp but there is no power point next to the bed but a pile of tangled extension cord. The bathroom not only just has empty shampoo/conditioner and shower gel bottles, the lids of the bottles were also left aside. It listed there was an eatery, but the cafe next door was abandoned (completely empty) a long time ago. There is no eatery as it advertised. It would be nothing wrong with this accommodation if it was honestly listed as it is. Instead, it dishonestly advertised and charged to an accommodation it is not.

On first appearance it seems like they are upgrading the front of the motel. I believe it was very messy when they bought it and it is still a work in progress. The rooms are immaculate. The view took me straight to our private balcony. Absolutely stunning view straight across the lake to the sea. I’d heard some people caught a kg of prawns in the lake in front of us the day before. The King size bed was the most comfortable bed we’d slept on in our whole trip. Extras pillows if we wanted. Nice size lounge/ bedroom. There’s a local wine you can buy in the room. We would totally recommend staying here. Shelley was extremely helpful and welcoming.

Really enjoyed staying at this property, it is an older site and the room we were in has been renovated nicely and it was really relaxing. Great view out over the lagoon and the beach and lovely spot to watch the sunrise from bed. Easy parking, good communication and very accommodating, would certainly stay here again.

Great location. We were worried about what to expect when we arrived as the outside area, (carpark and building exterior) did not look great but we were pleasantly surprised by the room interior and spectacular view... The room was nicely presented and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Would recommend for a long or short stay.

I'd like to give them 5 stars but they have taken extra funds from my credit card and unable to provide a reason for this. My final invoice from them alao states the overcharge. They advised that it is explained in all the booking details but there is nothing there, the web link they provided on their T&Cs doesn't exist, nor does it directly on their website.

Great clean location and very friendly host. Beds were super comfy and the view out of the main bedroom was superb. Board games were a bonus as the weather turned the first couple of days we were there so it was great fun playing monopoly! I would suggest that before any guests check in that basic supplies are checked for adequacy like soap, shampoo and kitchen amenities like oil, salt, pepper. Also the second bedroom had a blind that could not be opened so the room was in darkness all the time. This should be fixed. We would have no hesitation recommending this place. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Lovely place to stay with awesome access to the main sights of the east coast. Fully recommend taking a kayak and getting out on the river. Owner is super friendly and very accommodating.

Lovely hosts attending to needs quickly. Comfy king bed was great, lovely cushions and throw rugs, very warm doona. Fluffy towels, nice big shower. Great amenities for self catering and dining setting along with couch. Great large size TV. Wonderful beach front outlook, listening to the surf roll in, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There is a guest laundry with washer n dryer, great to have a clothes rack in the room too for washing. Tea, coffee, milk, kettle, toaster and microwave. The rooms are great, don’t be deceived by outside.

This property has access to the river and beachfront. Amazing uninterrupted views. Cute little rooms. Bed was amazingly comfortable, had a great sleep. Currently they are putting on Solar Panels, and encourage environmental sustainability. Is a short walk to the local pub and a great little cafe. It honestly was a fabulous little find.

Location was amazing, restaurant attached to the hotel was very convenient and a great feed but needed heating. Loved the non-contact check in. Enjoyed the spa although the tv was mounted in an awkward position which made viewing difficult while in the bath.
