If you look at the photos online provided by management, you see the old sandstone 1836 inn. Impressive. You then see interior shots of the rooms. Some are in the old heritage building, but the cheaper rooms are NOT. Instead, they are in an old dilapidated 1960s built motel with the windows and fibro panelling alongside
We'd chosen a cheap room from expedia, but when going to reception in the pub and paying for the accommodation, we found the reality behind the story.
We were assigned Room 1, which was a double room at the roadside end. The door was open on arrival, and the reason for this was it had been leaking, and the musty smell was quite pungent. The room was also adjacent to the rubbish skips for the pub, which another reviewer here said was smelly, although we couldn't detect it over the musty smell from the leak. The fan didn't work, so we had to move to another room as it was 30 degrees that day.
For the first time ever we were in a motel room without a TV. There was no toaster, definitely no microwave. The fridge was relatively new, although the door was sticking, meaning you had to hold the fridge to open the door to avoid pulling it off the shelf.
We've been to a lot of cheap motels in the past, and some of this price, but alas, this was the worst we've endured. Five of the six external rooms were occupied (Room 1 wasn't given out, of course), so I guess that others might feel differently to us
