Sketchy area, dirty room, loud at night. As two well-traveled women, we did NOT feel safe or sanitary staying here or leaving our car in the lot. Although we ended up being fine overall, there was a 2:15 AM alarming knock at our door and the front desk staff said they’d scope it out but we never saw them walk by the room or check like we asked. The only reason we did end up staying the night is because we arrived around 10 PM and didn’t want to go back outside because of the environment—people (who obviously lived there) loitering, smashed car windshields, waterless pool despite the ad, and garbage everywhere (least of our concerns, but it showed this hotel just did not care). The room was clearly not swept; there were clumps of hair and dirt throughout the rooms. The bed was neatly made but the sheets, pillows, and pillowcases had stains, as did the shower curtain, and so did the towels when we had to go get them, so literally every possible linen. It was gross. The AC, sink and shower worked well, so if you don’t care about basic cleanliness or the environment then I guess you’d be fine. We are super lowkey and had even been camping the few nights prior (so we’re used to roughing it), but this place was so gnarly I wanted to warn other female travelers or generally clean people to stay away. We picked this place because it’s a 3 minute walk to Kern River but the hotel is surrounded by a barbed wire fence and I wouldn’t want to walk to the river after seeing the environment.
