The location of the Tongadale Hotel is decent, right in the centre of Portree. That said, Portree itself is incredibly crowded, which probably explains the high prices – but still, the value just isn’t there.
The hotel really feels more like a hostel with a hefty price tag. It’s situated above a pub, which tells you a lot about the atmosphere. The food was passable but significantly overpriced for the quality.
The room felt more like student accommodation than a proper hotel – basic, uncomfortable and not cleaned daily, which was disappointing. Overall, it just didn’t meet expectations for the price.
On a positive note, the service was very good. Special thanks to Caitlin in the restaurant, who was friendly and shared great local tips – she was the highlight of our stay.
Still, I wouldn’t stay there again.
