I stayed at Hotel Hayden from June 9–12 with my child, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had in NYC.
From the moment we checked in, the AC in our room was broken. The room was dusty and clearly not well-maintained. The technicians came seven times throughout our stay after we complained over 20 times. After repeated complaints, they moved us to another room (Room 304) — but the air conditioning there also did not work. Each time they sent someone to fix it, it would stop working again within minutes.
The outdoor temperature was close to 90°F, and the room was unbearably hot and humid. We barely slept all three nights. Despite calling the front desk multiple times and being promised fans, none were ever brought to the room. One staff member even snapped at us and said there was nothing she could do. A technician (who claimed to be the engineering manager) told us he’d have the AC working in 20 minutes, but it never happened. Even worse, he belittled another staff member right in front of us before damaging the transponder.
I was shocked by the level of unprofessionalism, poor service, and lack of care for guests. This hotel is listed as a four-star property, but it was nowhere close. The location was great — but that’s where the positives end.
