Pool was closed and we weren’t told about this at all.. pretty disappointing. Breakfast in the morning was fast and staff were very sweet. Self check in was a bit more work since we arrived so late at night, but the staff worked over email to coordinate us getting our keys. Very safe area and close to lots of our excursions.

Rooms are stand alone, which is very nice. Feels like you are far away from the town. Yet just minutes away. Included breakfast was good, server was very nice. Randy who can help with tours very attentive. When we arrived we were informed the pool was closed for renovations. Would have been nice to know ahead of time. Was part of the reason my family booked there. Also Randy offered me $40 in restaurant credit because of the pool. Which seems less than fair. He never actually gave me the restaurant credits.. The hotel is under new management, so guess working the details out still. Will be a great place once the pool is completed.

We loved our stay at Hotel Volcan Verde. This hotel used to be known as Arenal History Inn up through about three months ago. It's near downtown La Fortuna, and tons of restaurants and shops are within an easy walk. With that being said, the hotel cabins are just off of the street enough that you feel like you are in a different world. (FYI, many hotels in this region, some of which are very pricey and opulent, are nowhere close to the downtown of La Fortuna.) There is also tons of parking spots near the cabins. Each cabin was beautifully appointed, with mini split air conditioning, excellent beds (Queens) and bathrooms, and a refrigerator with complimentary bottles of waters and juice boxes. EXCELLENT WiFi. Randy (the hotel manager) was great! WhatsApp communications with him were always fast and productive. He was able to set up many things for us in advance of our stay. Breakfast was complimentary (served between 7-9am), with excellent options ranging from local cuisine, to cereal/pancake options for picky eaters. Under special circumstances, you can order breakfast the day before and be served at 6:30am. The pool was under repair during our stay, so in exchange for the inconvenience, we received vouchers to the hotel's excellent (and extremely popular!) restaurant. He also helped set up discounted rates for a day pass at Baldi Hot Springs (just up the road from us, about a six minute car ride). All told, this was a great place to stay in La Fortuna!

We had no hot water one morning we woke up. Yes, they fixed it later on in the day, but the inconvenience of having to find someone to report the issue was unpleasant. There is rarely ever anyone at the from desk. Plus, we had a tour scheduled that morning that we ended up missing because of that. The breakfast was far from good. The same menu every morning to pick from: either American (2 eggs, 1 bacon strip, and a toast); traditional (2 eggs, rice and beans, and a quarter of plantain), or pancakes. As a result, we left a day early. They couldn’t care less when we told them about it. I wouldn’t waste my money on this property.

At the end of November, 2025, our family spent three days in La Fortuna at Arenal History Inn. This is a small hotel with only about 10 units. It is however a little different from a regular hotel in that each spacious single-storm room is independent from the others. All the rooms are surrounded by tropical trees and quite some distance away from the street. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about getting noise from the room next door or from passing traffic on the street. As a guest, the rustic setting makes you feel close to the nature. I once even spotted a humming bird on one of the trees outside the room. I also saw quite a few other bigger birds that I don’t even know the names. Surprisingly, this small hotel has its own restaurant and swimming pool even though I didn’t use the swimming pool during my stay. On the last day of the stay, the room air conditioning unit was out of order. The manager came in during the after hours in the evening and got that taken care of promptly. It was highly appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel to family travelers who are interested in a quiet place with natural tropical surroundings. LC

The only thing good about this place is room size. The room didn’t have expected two nightstands or a chair to seat. Ants in the room. Inadequate lighting. There were ants outside also. Staff didn’t clean our room properly. The pathway to the property restaurant for breakfast is unpaved and uneven. The breakfast was skimpy and limited. The rooms are way behind the roadway, unpaved and Stoney area to walk. Very difficult at night due to poor lighting. The reception is open very limited hours. We wouldn’t stay at such a place again, previous reviews are misleading.

My room had issue.. bathroom door lock was having issue, caused me stuck in bathroom for almost half an hour and then mgmt has to break lock to let me out.. breakfast was ok too.. not much option to choose from.. floor is very slippery.. my son slept once in shower and hurt his toe.. WiFi is very weak in room.. staff were good and helpful.. but not much amenities.. as I had bad experience since I checked in to place , not going to come again stay at same place..
