We loved our stay at Hotel Alza Kyoto. The staff was polite and kind, and helped forward our luggage to our hotel in Tokyo (for a fee). The room was spacious, clean, and the quietest we'd ever stayed in. It's slightly off the beaten path, yet within 3 minutes of the Sanjo JR station, 5 minutes of the Sanjo Keihan subway station, and within walking distance to Nishiki Market. Kiyomizu-dera Temple is about a 30-minute walk, partly uphill. A bus will get you close to Philosopher's Path. The 7-Eleven down the street was great for morning coffee, snacks, and even noodle bowls. Would definitely stay there again.

Hotel Alza is an absolute gem. It has the feel of a quiet traditional place which it is. It is much more. New and clean and upscale with every modern amenity.
