Great place to stay if traveling through Utah to experience various National Parks. Conveniently located off the highway. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about local attractions. Comfortable beds, quiet, and clean. Would stay here again and will recommend to family and friends.

Great value and location

Nice clean motel for the price. Nice views. Restaurant seemed fine. At the time I was one of two tables there. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. It was a little different than what I’m used to. It was like crumbled chicken and not much cheese. But it was OK and the service was good.

Terrible

Our one-night stay at the San Juan Inn in Mexican Hat, Utah was disgusting and unacceptable. From the moment we arrived, guest safety and cleanliness were clearly not priorities. At 9:14 p.m., I got an email saying our room key would be left on the ground directly under the doorknob—yes, on the floor. Anyone could have picked one up and walked in. Their website claims 24-hour service with a night phone, but that was a lie. Instead, they left keys outside like a sketchy roadside motel. Inside, the room was filthy. Bugs were everywhere—on the bed, bathroom, floors, and windows. The bathroom window didn’t seal properly, so insects poured in all night. I woke up to a sink full of dead bugs. The shampoo and conditioner were in cheap, tamper-prone dispensers—completely unsanitary. There was no information about front desk hours, the restaurant, or Wi-Fi. It felt like the bare minimum was done to rent the room, with no care or respect for guests. The view was nice, and the woman who checked us out was sweet—one bright spot. But later, in the gift shop, an older woman was openly insulting a disabled vendor—completely inappropriate. The Native man in the restaurant was also rude and made us feel unwelcome. This place cuts corners everywhere and tolerates unprofessional behavior. I wouldn’t stay here again if they paid me, and I’d caution anyone considering it. The location may be scenic, but the operation is a total mess.

Check in was quick and efficient. Strange to see an actual key for the room rather than a card. Room was nice and large with 2 queen size beds with a nice firm mattress. On the downside the room was very dated, the bathroom was in need of a full redecoration. The tiles were grubby as was the bath and toilet.

My Favorite Amongst 7 Hotels in A Single Trip

What a gorgeous room and location! I really loved this hotel. It’s is quite close to Mexican Hat, Valley of the gods and Monument Valley which are must-see locations. I have eaten at the San Juan Inn Restaurant before (attached to the hotel, great food btw), and stopped at the Trading Post a couple times. I love the location by the river (and you can walk down to the river), you can also eat at the picnic tables by the river. Hotel is older, so the hotel was a bit warm inside. I wish I could have opened the large window at the front of the room but it’s permanently shut. The room does have A/C, etc. Very cozy. I slept great and woke up well-rested.

Enjoyed the stay!

Overall, I was satisfied with the hotel. There is a river in front of the hotel, and you can see the Red Rock Canyon from the window of the room. I had some doubts about the sanitary aspect of the shower room, such as whether it was cleaned properly, but I was grateful that there was a refrigerator and ice maker. I would like to stay in this hotel again when I go to that area.

Alternative to Kayenta near Monument Valley

Ok overnight stop to visit Monument Valley. Clean but basic rooms with creaky bed and creaky floor. Tea and coffee only available in takeaway cups from restaurant area. Basis meals/beer/wine available.
