Very clean, one of the last true character buildings left in Carmarthen. Nothing too much trouble for our excellent hosts, magnificent food, the breakfasts were outstanding. Would definitely stay here again.

8/10 Very good

I loved how friendly the gentleman was on arrival. It is an older guest house but that was the appeal for me.

10/10 Exceptional

Loved the consistent mid-century decor, very nostalgic. Get what you pay for, clean facilities, nice atmosphere, friendly hosts. Would've liked the twin beds next to eachother as I had no option for a double, but it's what we booked so no real complaint! Decent view out the back of the hills and churchyard. Pool table and communal area was lovely and well looked after. Short walk to highstreets and pubs, not too far walking from the train station.

6/10 Good

The breakfast was not of good quality
Ingo, 3-night trip

2/10 Poor

The communal showers were not in a hygienic state and put us off using it. The staff were really friendly
Tony, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

The host was friendly helpful and I had an enjoyable stay. Welsh breakfast was delicious and of high quality. Bedroom is spacious and comfortable. It is a bit away from the castle but 10 mins walk from pubs and restaurants so it is quiet at night. Host was helpful in trying to get me a taxi for Sunday which was a bit of a chaos. If I pass by there that would be the place I stay.

Shared toilets which we did not know when booking - was inconvenient

Old style lovely guesthouse

I had a really nice stay at this guesthouse. It is kind of old-fashioned, but not rundown. A lot of decorations reminiscent of Carmarthen's past as well as of the place itself. A place you could maybe have found the same 30 or 40 years ago and well-maintained eversince. I really loved the mood. Also, the owners are really super nice, kind and welcoming. A good traditional cooked breakfast is served in the morning. Go there if you like old-style UK and want to support independent owners. I would gladly return.

Disappointing Stay – Misleading Listing and Poor F

I booked this property expecting a private bathroom, as there was no mention of shared shower rooms at the time of booking. Only now, after revisiting the website, do I see that it’s listed as shared—something I’m certain wasn’t disclosed earlier. What’s more frustrating is that the cost was the same as rooms with attached bathrooms, which makes this feel like a poor value. The setup resembles more of a hostel or guest house than a proper hotel. There’s no dedicated parking, and finding a spot on the street is a challenge—you may end up walking quite a distance just to park your car. The house rules are unusually restrictive. You’re not free to come and go as you please, and the owner keeps the keys, which means you have to leave your valuables and keys with them. It felt more like being in a controlled environment than a relaxing stay—almost prison-like in terms of freedom and privacy. For the price I paid (around £40), I expected basic hotel-level facilities and autonomy. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of that.

Ok, the place is a bit tired but the rooms are clean and the breakfast is lovely. For the price, you have to say good value.

OK hotel

Small hotel/B+B close to the centre of Carmarthen. 15 mins walk from the railway station, little/no parking at the hotel but a cheap car park nearby. Good breakfast. I would describe it as nothing special but would use it again
