The trendy city of Matera is full of attractions, such as Palombaro Lungo and Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches, and is loved for its spas and churches.
If you're planning a bit of sightseeing during your trip, head to Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches— just one of the monuments in central Matera.
Viewpoint of Matera and the Sassi is just one of the landmarks located 0.7 mi (1 km) from central Matera, so you might want to stop by for a few pics during your trip. You could also start your cultural experience by heading over to the churches in the area.
When the beach is calling your name, you might want to head down to Metaponto Beach, located 1.5 mi (2.3 km) from central Metaponto. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at La Spiaggetta, The Philosophical Beach, and Ti Blu Spiaggia.
"Great location, not too far from Matera Centrale and the piazza is just round the corner. The room is clean, with coffee and tea provided. The breakfast spread is excellent, especially the pastries. "
"Matera was absolutely breathtaking! The room was small but you can appreciate the history in which you are staying. Would have liked to use the pool but it cost extra and you need a reservation to use it. Breakfast was great! "
"I cannot say enough about how perfect our stay was at Pianelle! Starting off with Saverio, the manager who was so helpful and kind, ensuring us that all of our needs were met. Then there is the super kind staff that also went out of their way to be friendly and efficient. Our cave room was beyond beautiful, tastefully decorated, one of the best showers we've had on this 2 week trip - everything was perfect!!"
"We enjoyed everything about the hotel; friendly staff, convenient location, clean n big room except for 2 things :
- the toilet is not enclosed ie it has no door. My husband and I had to take turn to leave the room when we want to use it.
- the hotel did a fantastic job to notify us about options of parking. It was quite a task to drag our luggage up and down from the car park to the hotel along the cobblestone road. The hotel could have offered portal service to their guests especially for elderly guests"
"The hotel is incredible and the staff is as well. We absolutely loved our stay. It was truly a unique experience. However, guests should know that because the hotel is literally incorporated into the caves, it can be physically demanding climbing all the stone stairs. People with mobility issues will definitely struggle at this hotel"
