Crazy Bear Hotel-Beaconsfield
6/10 Okay
"This is our third visit to The Crazy Bear, but has now, I have been informed by the staff changed ownership and sadly it is not the place it used to be.
The only area now to sit, chat and drink in is in the bar....gone are the cosy Moroccan styled areas inside the building. The pool area has also been changed. The day beds have gone, and now has no character.
We have stayed in the decadent rooms, the slightly smaller rooms as well, but this time opted for the snug room. Oh my goodness, far too small, i would definitely not recommend.
The staff are all friendly, but the ambience/atmosphere has left the building with the previous owners. Now it seems all about maximum dining area.
The quirkiness of The Crazy Bear has gone, and sadly we would not return again. "
"Room was clean. More wipe clean than a hospital room though with a plastic shower cupboard off the bedroom and a toilet in another cupboard. Budget yes but absolutely no home comforts. Not even a duvet and the room was so cold I needed the heater all on night. "
"I was very impressed with my stay at this hotel. The room was very clean and the thermostat in the room was great, you could choose between a cool fan or heating. When we put the heating on it made the room lovely and warm, which was needed as it was a cold day. I had a wonderful sleep and wasn't disturbed, I didn't hear any noise from the rooms next to me. The shower was absolutely bloody brilliant! Bathroom was supplied with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel with a lovely LED light around the bathroom mirror, which I particularly liked. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful, with an excellent selection. There were waffles you could make yourself using a machine with the batter provided - there was maple syrup or nutella sauce to choose from as a topping. The maple syrup was marvellous. There was toast, fruit, sausages, scrambled eggs, cereal, hash browns, beans, croissants and more! There was also a hot drinks machine if you fancied a cappuccino, as well as a good selection of tea. The juice machine had apple or orange juice. The seating area was lovely, spacious, comfortable and modern. Anita from reception was absolutely lovely and so helpful - she helped me with the waffle machine. The hotel is right next door to Waitrose, which was a nice touch, we were able to pick up some lunch. The car park cost £4.60 for 24 hours - you pay for this when you leave the hotel. Definitely value for money would happily stay here again."
"First overnight trip with our newborn baby (3 months old) to celebrate Mother’s day. Lovely, welcoming, greeting and checked into a fabulous room. However, a few hours into the evening we noticed an electrical beeping noise just outside our room which we knew would keep us (and the baby) up overnight. Front of house staff came to investigate and identified the noise in a small attic space just outside our room and said they would work to fix the problem. In the meantime we went to the Resident’s Lounge for a relaxed dinner. Having ordered our food, I received a call to say the problem could not be repaired but that we would be moved into a new room. I left the restaurant to pack up our stuff so that the staff could move our bags. The food arrived in my absence so my wife asked if it could be delayed until I returned but incredibly rude Resident’s Lounge staff scorned that they had waited as long as they could, sending my wife into tears. Extremely disappointing sequence of events.
We raised this with Catherine, the duty manager, who thankfully could not have been more helpful. She took the time to listen, apologise and took the cost of the meal off our bill. She has since e-mailed me to apologise once more and to tell us that she would personally take care of us on any future visit to Cliveden.
I am grateful to Catherine but, given the price point, the overall experience was not fitting of such a hotel."
"Tried to arrange everything in advance for a stay with my mum, who has mobility issues. Staff were very accomodating, however, everything was a little further away than they made it out to be. Which did cause some issues. Fine if you are a wheelchair user, but my mum uses crutches to get around. It was not that easy for her.
Rooms are very basic, for the price and the attraction of "Horwood House". Be careful, the beds are on wheels, which surprised my mum, as she almost fell off. They are also pretty firm matresses, not the most comfortable night I've ever had. I also had a dripping noise all night in my room, that sounded like the buildings heating.
The pool/spa was lovely though. Not many changing facilities, so queues happen often, but it was nice and modern and clean.
Dinner at Harrys was excellent. Fresh, hot and delicious. Be aware the cocktails are very expensive though.
Breakfast was a disappointment. Definitely not worth £20 per person. I know its geared up for wedding parties/conferences, but the quality was so bad and nothing was as warm as it should be.
The staff however, are amazing.
They were so accomdating, friendly and willing to go over and above.
This ranges from reception, to the staff at Harrys, the Spa and 1911 for breakfast.
The staff truly made the visit special, even if some of the other stuff was a disappointment."
"It seams the maintenance in the rooms is being overlooked.
Lights not working. Problems in the heating. Problems in the shower faucet.
Breakfast is good and the staff is very polite."
"The lift was faulty and remained so throughout my 1 week stay. No attempt to repair it. Also the internet was not available for streaming, only for your phones. The room heater had a mind of its own and didn’t work properly. The cleaning crew did a swell job. Breakfast was okay but no variety. "
"Great stay. The staff were amazing and sorted out a small cake and card for my daughter on her birthday. We got a free upgrade as members and dinner was good. Great WiFi and pool area. Highly recommend it."
