3 Great Places to Shop at Surin Plaza

Located between Cherngtalay and Surin Beach, Surin Plaza is a one-off, high-class, 3-storey shopping emporium. Here, you can buy unique jewellery, designer clothes, objets d’art and antiques – all in a very attractive setting. It’s certainly a class above most beach shopping venues you’ll find in Phuket, but items don’t come cheap.

Shopping here is a fascinating experience and retailers here generally open and close late. Typical opening hours are from 9am to 7pm.

1. Alexander Lamont

Owned by British-born Alexander Lamont, Lamont at Surin Plaza is one of several Lamont stores in Thailand. Famous for its beautiful design and some of the best traditional craft methods from all over Asia, this product design company also works with and/or supplies hand-crafted interior and custom decorative accessories to hotels around the world, including Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bangkok, Aman Summer Palace Beijing and Amanpuri Phuket.

If you suspect that this boutique has something to do with the stylish Andara Resort on Kamala Beach, you’d be correct. With high ceilings and a stunning set of original women’s clothing designed for socialising, shopping or sightseeing, Andara has a beautiful collection worth checking out. Take a credit card, though – it’s not cheap. This is a great place to shop if you’re getting ready for a yacht party or a beach wedding.

3. Soul of Asia

Soul of Asia offers a heady mix of Southeast Asian antiques and artefacts, reproduced masterpieces and modern art, along with quirky objets d’art. Here, you can browse through master paintings from Asia, Chinese antique furniture, Asian antiques, and a special collection of Chagall, Dali, Picasso and Andy Warhol lithographs, as well as Buddhist images. With an official license from the National Fine Arts Department, goods here are genuine.
