This was our first stay at a rhyokan (spelling!)and we were blown away by the beauty, The comfort (personally I felt sleeping on tatami mats on a futon perfect). The attentive service was welcoming and spot on.
We ate breakfast and dinner here and the local food was abundant, gorgeously presented and flavorful.
We had a room with a private Onsen on a deck. Highly recommend.
This was a unique, peak experience and I am a seasoned traveler. Do it.
The room was very big with a beautiful view of the forest. There was a nice wooden bath in the room and a very large communal bath. The breakfast and dinner were delicious, but there is only Japanese food and green tea, so if you want something else you should take it with you. All in all it was a wonderful ryokan experience at a very reasonable price.

We got dropped off at the wrong location by our taxi and ended up pushing our giant tourist suitcases up the hill! We were greeted by cheery staff who had come down to find and help us! Not only that but as soon as we came in we were assisted right away in cooling down and our stuff was taken right to our room. Magical ryokan experience with a kaiseki dinner by the river and a maiko performance. The room was basic, but had all the comforts we needed. I did not book a room with a private onsen, but the public onsen was lovely - spotless, very hot, and no one was there so it was private! The setting up in the mountains by the river was absolutely enchanting. The service was also outstanding - everyone was warm and friendly. An unforgettable and highly recommended experience.
An amazing and unique traditional stay in a small town outside of Kyoto. It is secluded and we were still able travel to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Kobe. Public transportation is provided multiple time every morning, and although I did a lot I highly recommend walking around the trails, and temples. My favorite temple was right behind the hotel, and it held amazing views and was not crowded at all.
