Learn more about Bologna
Beneath medieval towers that lean like tipsy professors, Bologna's terracotta skyline glows amber at sunset. The Piazza Maggiore buzzes with students from the world's oldest university, debating philosophy over plates of perfect tortellini. Climb the precarious wooden stairs of Torre Asinelli for views that explain why they call this 'La Rossa.' The city unfolds beneath 40 kilometers of porticoes – now UNESCO-listed – where locals have strolled protected from rain since the Middle Ages. In the Quadrilatero market, vendors offer mortadella with the reverence others reserve for fine art. Don't miss the unfinished façade of San Petronio Basilica or Neptune's fountain, where the sea god's proportions were strategically reduced to avoid offending papal sensibilities.

Fly On Hotel
"Excellent"
The Social Hub Bologna
"A very nice hotel. The location near the train station is ideal for backpackers and other people not coming by car. It’s also easy to get to the old town from the hotel. The bar and breakfast are both quite good. The gym and co-working both looked good, though I never used them. The air conditioning was a godsend in the hot weather. There are also some good restaurants in the area with good prices."
Savhotel Aemilia Bologna
"Very convenient and has very nice, accommodating staff."
Hotel Internazionale

Starhotels Excelsior
"Excellent location just opposite the train station and a short walk to the main square. Helpful and friendly staff. Got an upgraded room which was the biggest room we’ve ever stayed in! Only minor issue was the number of light switches in the room - over complicated. Otherwise a wonderful stay."
