Hotels in Franz Josef Glacier

"The 2 bed unit was a good size and reasonably clean and comfortable with the exception of the very hard beds. There is a notice telling you not to cook smelly meals and if you did you would incur a fee. Shame about the smelly bin which had not been cleaned before a new bin bag had been added, so that caused a smell. The units are on top of each other with large windows all around and no blinds or net curtains, so when in the unit you had to keep the curtains closed otherwise it felt like you were in a goldfish bowl. There is no ironing board and iron in the unit, you have to request from reception. This was difficult on times as you had to catch the receptionist when she was actually in reception, which was only when new guests arrived. This is not a retreat, as there is a busy road around it, which woke us up around 7:00am wach morning. This was certainly the idyllic location we envisaged. "

"Booked based on photos of hotel with chilled bar area. Very surprised to find they do not open the bar area outside of restaurant hours. At 8.45 pm wanting a nightcap they told us to go to a local bar. May as well have stayed in one of the local motels or airbnb. Basically an expensive motel with a restaurant."

"The property is rundown; the room is ok, but the mattress sheets ha e mildew smell and all the sheets and pillow cases look old and dirty. Receptionist was nice and helpful. He changed the sheets for us. "

"Room was clean and very quiet period staff was good and attentive. Not much of a glacier to see upon the 30-minute walk to the glacier."

"Clean room. Nice staff. Common area very useful if you want to bring your own food. Free popcorn and soup.Close to all restaurants and shops. Only thing we didn't like as much is the bathroom sink is too small. "

"The bed was terrible, no light by the bed and no fridge. Cleanliness in shared bathroom needs to improve."

"Angela and Thomas were excellent hosts going the second mile for us and their guests. The property is high quality and well furnished and welcoming. The location, landscaping, and environment was wonderful. They have a very good nutritious breakfast each morning in a scenic breakfast space.
