"It was fine, bed comfortable, (local) TV & kettle worked, shower had good pressure Location is why you’re here. My issue is with the fire doors, all the doors actually, every single room door & the several fire doors down the length of the hall ALL squeaked and slammed! Greasing a squeaky hinge has got to be one of the easiest fixes in the world- but when I mentioned it to front desk staff she basically rolled her eyes at me as if to say I was asking too much. The slamming is another issue that would take more work but it’s not impossible to fix and is pretty standard in most hotels. I really wanted to like the restaurant more, had I not been practically starving I would have sent my beef pie back because it was soooooo salty. The ONE staff member did a pretty good job handling the 5-6 tables on his own, but jeeez, get one more employee in there, add less salt in the food and they could probably raise their dismal 3-stars (on Google) problem. "

"Very helpful and friendly staff. They were able to fix a sandwich for us on our late arrival. Very good breakfast and the evening meal we had was excellent. Clean and quiet room. We didn't use the parking as we arrived by train. Hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the station."

"Location was awesome. It had both a kitchen and laundry which allowed for a chance from eating out as we were on a 1 month holiday. Very clean, also unexpected was the room tidying after first night."

"A lovely hotel in a perfect setting by the river. My only quibble is that one morning at breakfast two staff members had a disparaging conversation about a colleague within earshot of guests. Bar prices were a bit on the high side but other than that The Palace was terrific."

"Worst experience we have ever had at any hotel or guest house. USB outlets in room didn't work. Room had an odor. Bathroom fan was covered in thick layers of dust. Lamps didn't have working lightbulbs. Fire alarm went off twice in one night waking us up at 1am. Staff couldn't figure out what was going on and we called Fire Brigade ourselves. We didn't get an apology or explanationn Morning after the entrance hallway was full of animal feces and spread on the wall. One staff member reeked of cigarette smoke and made the entire front desk area smell of smoke. They allow people to just loiter in the entrance drinking and smoking. No protein/eggs at breakfast ever. Just all around terrible experience and would never suggest this place to anyone Location is okay if you want to be in the heart of downtown but parking was several blocks away. It's noisy as you can expect. Very rowdy bars and bus stop directly below room window."
