Hotel Seaside Shimabara
10/10 Excellent
"Great views. Air conditioned rooms even in November which was amazing. Could actually sleep at night without getting too hot. Close to the port and to the local train line. All around great stay. Restaurant has delicious set meals too!"
"This is a top class hotel, not inexpensive but worth the cost. It is actually a historic hotel built in 1917, but rebuilt in 2018 so everything is new and modern. Every room has a private onsen bath. Because if its long history, it has the best location right in front of the Unzen Jigoku geothermal area -- every terrace room has a direct overview of the Jigoku. There are 20 terrace rooms and 4 villas which are larger and higher grade. We spent 2 nights, one in a terrace room and one in a villa. The villa was large with 2 onsen baths, one outdoors and one indoors. It also cones with its own private dining room (by the way, the food is great). Overall, i liked the terrace room more, it has the view of the Jigoku, and you get to eat in the 1917 dining room which also overlooks the Jigoku (and less expensive too). Staff were very helpful everywhere in the hotel. "
"Our tatami room was incredibly dirty, dusty and bathroom wS leaking n smelly. Bathroom near dining room, water leaked around the toulet when flushed. Sests stuck to dining room floors because floors were vrimy n sticky. When i showed the staff at the front desk, pictures of the grimy tib, they only apologizedand said the hotel is old. We have stayed in 400 yo lodgings in narita, rome and venice that were clean! I wish i could show u puctures that i took! "
