It was a bit far from Kyoto but it was nice escape after a long day. And public transport was close by (10 min walk). Loved my experience and would definitely return and recommend. "

"I stayed at the Chaya house which was absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and a joy to speak with. Otsu is a smaller quiet town with lots of character and friendly residents. I highly recommend checking out the local Izakayas and cafes for an equally excellent experience."

"Le meilleur qu on a trouvé, situé à Otsu donc moins cher que Kyoto et pourtant pas très loin de la ville (25mn), le plus grand lac du Japon est juste a coté, nous avons adoré particulièrement le fait qu on s est senti comme on vivait dans une maison traditionnelle japonnais, décor, tatami, couchette, notre chambre avait aussi 3 lits superposés donc il y avait l option de dormir dans les lits ou sur le tatami, on recommande "

"We loved this hotel, and had a great 4 day stay in Kyoto. Very upscale and peaceful, in a quiet, non-touristy neighbourhood, with lots of convenient travel options. And we ended up in nearby underground jazz bar Zac Baran twice, as well as a tiny local restaurant about 15 minutes walk west, same side of street as hotel, called kawahigashi (it also says 'food and beverage' in English outside). We were the only people on a weeknight, with a single chef/server doing everything, and the food was...

"This ryokan was beautiful and very clean, and the staff were always friendly and accommodating. You can also reserve the private onsen for about 1000 yen for an hour. The bus stop was a short walk away so it wasn't too bad travelling to different parts of the city. Loved this place! "

"Hiro is a real hero! He made our stay so special and an unforgettable experience. We had some travel delays and then extended our trip and he has been so flexible with everything and even gave us a ride to the train station! "Luxury hotel overlooking Kyoto. Newly built 12 months ago so everthing was well maintained. Short walk to restaurants. Many close at 8pm due to local rules. We wanted a relaxing place to spend our last few nights after a busy tour of Japan. This hotel was great for that. "

"Lovely ryokan in the middle of the insanity. Was so nice returning here at the end of the day with all the tourists around you it’s just one simple door from the street and you’re transported to the oasis of Sowaka. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Even gave us really great tips for somewhere in Osaka on our next stop. Would stay again and just stay inside enjoying the peace and quiet of the hotel. "
