This town gets day trippers on the ferries. But I don't know how many of them explore beyond the harbor. It's well worth exploring up to the actual town square by the Hotel Royal Victoria. And even hike up to the castle.

Had a wonderful stay in Varenna, and easy to go to other cities along Lake como from the ferries. Ferries are very close.

"The rooms were good, the hotel itself has a resort feel to it which makes it really nice. The restaurants on cite have good vibes (even though the food is not good). Overall, staying in Como this is not a bad spot. "
"We loved the hotel, it was far enough from the hustle and bustle but still very walkable. The beaches are right outside the doors of the hotel, there was a bunch of restaurants outside the hotel doors as well. The rooftop lounge was wonderful and there is a car rental that was so much fun to drive around. It's like a Vespa meets a Fiat. We had a wonderful stay and would do it all over again!"
