10/10 Excellent
"The day after the Kona Low storm the open lobby was available for a wonderful hot breakfast. The staff were all very attentive and friendly, even though everything around them was affected. Our room was on the mauka side and the view in the morning was lovely. Quiet and well-kept, would definitely stay again"
"Given that our stay was the week of a horrendous storm the staff were friendly and courteous. Housekeeping provided great service with friendly attitudes. Hotel providing guests with breakfast and dinner was a very generous offering. Thank you!"

"Approached the front desk to ask if they had a room for 4 stranded travelers. We were asked bruskly what flight had been canceled. We explained that we were kamaaina and we were stranded because the road had been closed between kona and ocean view. We were once again told bruskly that she had a room available, but we didn't qualify for stranded traveler. And they did not accept walk in business. So we would have to book a full price room online only. So much for aloha! Ended up paying close to seven hundred dollars , including an outrageous forty dollars for parking! The facility and the room itself was more in keeping with a two hundred dollar rate. After checking in and then being misinformed about dining facilities for that evening and the next morning, we went to the drive through fast food joint and headed to our room for the night. All in all, marriott ended up adding insult to injury that stormy evening."
"There was ongoing construction duringour stay. Workers were on our lanai/balcony working during the day. It was loud, noisy and invaded our privacy. We had to vacate the room by 8:00 am and not return until 5:00pm due to the workers. The lanai/balcony was closed off and locked so we could not use it at all, even in the evening after the workers left for the day. There was construction scafolding and netting set up across our lanai obstructing our ocean view. The Kona Reef staff on site refused to contact Raintree Vacation Club management for us so we could file a complaint and discuss a resolution. We were informed by the Kona Reef staff there were no other available rooms we could move into. "
"My parents and I stayed in room 309 for 3 nights. Overall, we have a great vacation time here.
Good:
1) Great location, walking distance to the restaurants and grocery stores.
2) Extraordinary views from the lanai, even better than expected. Although we live in the north-facing room, the side view of the ocean is also great, and the lagoon and mountain give more diversity.
3) Provide everything we need, from a fully equipped kitchen to all of the beach supplies. Great for a family vacation.
Several acceptable drawbacks:
1) The check-in process is not really smooth. I know I made the reservation just the night before. But I did not get any check-in instructions. After we arrived, the front office was closed, and we didn't know who to consult. Fortunately, the emergency number works, and a staff member contacted me within 30 minutes to give us the code and let us in.
2) The whole building is a little old, even though it was carefully cleaned; some dust can be seen in the corner. There was a smell when we arrived, and we had to keep the lanai door open for several hours to refresh the air in the room.
3) The living room becomes crowded when I unfold the sofa bed. We have to fold it every morning and unfold it every night.
4) The laundry room opens 8 am-7 pm daily, a little inconvenient for me since I am used to doing laundry at night. "
